Michael Arndt said he originally wanted Rey to meet Luke much sooner in the film but he found that any version of the story he did that featured Luke in action just completely sidelined Rey. He couldn't wrap his head around how to make audiences fall in love with a new lead if she was sharing the screen with Luke. So he decided it would be best to give her her own movie, win audiences over, then have the next two Episodes feature them together while people are already fans of both characters.

He was probably right. So it appears the "Luke searches for the first Jedi Temple" was really just an excuse to prevent him from upstaging the newbies. I wonder if this lost Temple will turn out to have any real significance at all or if it will just be dismissed now that he's back in the picture.

this must of been the part of the movie where I went to the bathroom lol I thought he was just hiding, I wonder what this Jedi Temple will mean in future films.

It bothers me that after 40 years of Chewie being a copilot, that perfect little brat Rey, is now the new captain, and Chewie, who must be like 300 years old has to take a back seat to little miss sunshine. That's his ship, now that Han is dead.

Does it really bother you? Rey was a well written character and portrayed well in the movie. Plus Chewie has and always will be happy being co-pilot right?

Makes sense. Chewie's character is based off a dog and they have a pack mentality. They need an alpha which was Han now Rey so Chewie should be content with his role.

Chewie does seem to choose being the co-pilot by default - look at the end of ESB, Lando is the captain there aswell. Having said that Rey is a little on the young side for the job.

Blunt question time: Does anyone think that Poe might be gay?

We know that this is the new "diverse/all-inclusive" version of Star Wars and two EU books in the new Disney canon have already introduced several homosexual characters so I wonder if Disney has decided to go that route for a main film character as well.

Before TFA came out I assumed that Rey might have a love triangle between Finn and Poe and then was a bit surprised that there was no such triangle. Or was there? Do Rey and Poe both like Finn? Did Poe like seeing Finn "wearing his letterman jacket?"

Disney is big on their annual gay pride days at their theme parks so I can't help but wonder.

It wouldn't surprise me at all now that you mention it.

I thought Poe was just a cool bro Pilot and a good friend. Now that you mention those things though . . .

That bothers you? Has it affected your relationships and work productivity?

Yes, I can't stop thinking about it...lost the job, the wife, the kids...all of it...and it's only been 4 days since the film came out. As we speak, I'm in my underwear in a fetal position holding a stuffed Chewie doll...

Not gonna lie, it will taint SW (at least future Episodes) if they go that route but...such are the times we live in.

I dunno. Are gay people crying out for it or are they just enjoying the spaceships and lightsabers like the rest of us. If the former, fair enough I guess. But if the latter can we leave out all this ''representation'' stuff?

This is unacceptable! Palps was the final boss that got thrown down the Death Star shaft to his death. Vader turned good and died! Tarkin died on the first Death Star. Grand Moff Jerjerrod died on the second Death Star! My boy, Admiral Piett (underrated officer along with General Veers in my opinion) got killed by a kamikaze A-Wing pilot. Thousands of troops were destroyed in the second Death Star. The Empire's best men on Endor (according to Palpatine himself) were killed and/or rounded up and their armor get turned into musical Ewok instruments. Their best Star Destroyer's were destroyed, and Vader's huge Executor command ship took a nose dive.

The Empire was finished! I saw the rebel celebration man! How do you rise up out of nothing and become this strong that you can put together an even bigger Death Star!? Who's SNOKE, he's lived for a long time and seen it all? Palpatine and granddaddy Vader were the big bads.

How did they put together the Stormtrooper program under Republic law? How were babies like Finn who were born in the New Republic, taken from their homes when they were infants and turned into foot soldiers!?

I'm sure the entire Imperial military was not present at the battle of Endor, it's a big galaxy and I would bet there were a large number of troops and ships spread all over different systems. Not only that, but after the Emperor was killed, I am sure there were systems that wanted the Empire back and would be willing to help facilitate the First Order coming back into power.

Just look at Jaaku, it's obvious there have been battles taking place in other worlds after the battle in ROTJ.

I would consider the Resistance to be the official arm of the Republic, they have been called the resistance simply because they are resisting the Imperial remnants.

Yes. Very, VERY easy to assume that the remnants of a galaxy-wide Empire (with mostly evil commanders) would re-organize with a new leader. In fact we've seen evil forces defeated, limp away, then bide their time as they regather their strength until going on the offensive again so often in film and literature that it might actually be one of the least necessary things to explain in this saga.

As it stands ROTJ and TFA have already given us all we need to know:

"There are a lot of Command Ships." --ROTJ
"The First Order rose from the ashes of the Empire." --TFA.
Done.

Any speculating as to the specifics of the FO or Republic's "rise" is simple theorizing on the level of "how is there both an Emperor and a Senate in ANH?" Who formed the Rebellion? Who is in charge? We didn't really get hints of those until Mon Mothma and Ackbar showed up in ROTJ.

The story is about a small group of characters and how they interact against the backdrop of galactic conflict. We have everything we need to know to enjoy the drama onscreen. Did Abrams give less detail about the political machinations of the Republic and FO compared to what Lucas revealed regarding the Empire in the OT? Yes. Is it to the detriment of TFA? No.

I'm now with Khev on this one, i'm not going to get too caught up on helicopter shots and political factions.
I told you i've moved past my anger, the good parts have won me over, sue me.

N O O O O O O O O !

How could you, Jye?! I had faith in you...

I don't care about a main characters sexual orientation. The only thing I care about is if they are well written, well acted and serve a purpose to the story. It's a bonus if they look good visually and have action scenes.

I don't think Rey and Finn will get together romantically though... he obviously had a crush on her but I think they will end up being friends. There wasn't really any sexual tension between them IMO.

Just wait 'til they start talkin' about types of galactic toilets. So much better than prequels, right?

He's not Han. She's not Leia. Love's not sex.

Just great, my son wants to be just like Rey.
Tell him "First you have to grow up and be able to change your name to Gary Stu." :monkey3
