On 3rd viewing definitely a lot better then Return of the Jedi, that was very tame compared to this, but this just being a better film I think. Not sure about it being better then or on par with Empire yet as that's a masterpiece.

Kasdan is now reminding everyone that Han wasn't just a hot shot greedy smuggler before meeting Luke in the cantina, he was a down on his luck bumbling smuggler who always made rash decisions that quickly lead to him being hunted or losing property.

Remember the Han had to dump his cargo story in the OT?

This....

Also why his kid turned out to be a jerk....no father.

While solving the "P versus NP" problem... I didn't hate Rey, but I didn't love her either. I mean, she was:

1) A great Pilot: Okay, I buy that.

2) A great fighter: Okay, I guess she somehow needed to stay alive amongst space pirates, so that kinda makes sense as well.

3) A brilliant engineer: Uh, okay...

4) And a super-powerful Force user: Okay, now you're just ****ing with me...

Too many talents rolled up into one person in the span of one movie. The scenes were she solves Han's problems and the part where she gets the Falcon were some of the worst in the film for me (the other being the aftermath of Han's death).

Yeah because a SLAVE kid with money to spend on PODS and DROIDS for his slave mother, being the best POD racer in the realm at SIX makes much more sense that that!!!!

Is it canon or not canon any more that Han was briefly in the Imperial Navy?

Also are people assuming that Phasma will return? I just figured that all named villains that you didn't see die (which is actually all of them: Kylo, Hux, and Phasma) will be returning next episode. But if she really did get thrown into a trash compactor just a few minutes before the planet blew you'd think in all honesty she should be a goner.

He taught him about the universe and the force and all that crap in the first film. The purpose of the the training in the Falcon was for Luke to learn to use his senses and not his eyes. By the end of the film, Luke had guidance from Obi, "use the force"...Rey on the other hand, had no one to show her anything.

There's a big difference between what Luke did in this scene...barely being able to move the saber, and Ray doing mind tricks, and using the force to grab the lightsaber effortlessly from a long distance against Kylo Ren.

Keep reminding you of this...Luke moved huge torpedo into a 3 meter shaft without a computer....did the same with Womprats back home....some say that impossible even with a computer.

Moved Saber....

Sees force visions...

He had zero training, unless you count the 15 minutes Ben gave him.

He had a high midichlorian count or....something and only Jedi have the reflexes to handle that speed. Lame explanation...but it's an explanation nonetheless.

15 minutes in a film, is probably hours in the actual story. Still, better than randomly trying a jedi mind trick on a storm trooper. By the end of the film, he didn't do it alone, uncle Ben guided him from beyond. Who helped Rey? That's right, no one because it's about girl power...or something!

Very insightful response. And Kylo Ren is just an emo whiner right? Rey's Force abilities didn't properly reflect her "level?"

An emo whiner trained by Luke Skywalker and Supreme Taco Snoke, beaten by a space janitor who needed help beating a storm trooper during a saber fight and Rey who can do anything because...it's a mystery. That's some Oscar level story telling, and I'm sure the nominations are coming.

That's what I thought. Run along and play with your little hoverboard now while Mom and Dad talk about movies...

Eh, just because something else was silly doesn't excuse the Rey thing. Truth be told though, Anakin was the chosen one and did grow up in a repair shop. It's not that far fetched that he could create a decent Pod-Racer and... Alright, alright that scene was dumb. Anakin for all of his supposed genius was surprisingly dumb in later films (pre OT).

At least Rey utilized her abilities correctly. Problem is little training like Luke is still better than no training at all. I don't have a problem with her having many abilities, I just would've preferred for them to be gradually added to her character in multiple movies, rather than just dumping everything in 2 hours. The result is a mish-mash of different characteristics that make the character seem far too OP. Had we just gotten the engineering and fighting parts with a small Force dose here, and the Pilot thing with more Force training in 8, I think it'd be better. Just my 0.02$...

Movie is fun.
Well shot.
Decently acted.
Cool production design.
Script fall short at many moments tho.
Its a cool star wars movie.
But not a good movie per se.
Jupiter ascending had more balls and sense than this.
We Will see if part two will make it better.
