"How could Rey have resisted Kylo??? That would require like three natural 20's on her mind probe saving throw!"

Eh, truth be told that didn't bother as much. She was powerful and he wasn't completely trained, plus he was also messed up emotionally. Really, the Force stuff didn't bother me. She's the new Jedi, so it makes sense to have her do some Force Tricks. It's combination of great pilot/engineer/fighter/Jefi that left a sour taste in my mouth. I still liked her character mind you, I just think she could've been handled better. Really, one thing that TFA got absolutely right were the characters. Finn, Rey, Poe, Kylo, all great.

At a family christmas party right now, I just asked three 15 year old boys if they went to see TFA.

All 3 gave the same answer, not interested.

Then they went right back to their texting. :lol

Yeah, my son won't be hanging out with them. :lol

See, that's exactly what I heard too from a good friend with a fifteen year old son.

The audience age group that really helped define the original Star Wars and changed what target audience Hollywood would make movies for for decades may not necessarily be the same target audience now. Seems like everyone BUT 15-19 year old boys likes this movie.

With the Critics Choice Awards accepting TFA as a nominee even though its screening was past the official deadline I couldn't help but wonder:

Imagine George Lucas selling the franchise for $4 billion to Disney, thinking "suckers, heh heh," and then they go out and the very first movie they make wins Best Picture AND earns all the money back in one fell swoop. :lol

OR imagine this is as good as the new ST trilogy will ever be in terms of excitement, anticipation and hype. Teens don't connect. No one really buys the merchandise. And the next two films just come and go like "Ant Man".

I think technology has shifted many habits.

Star Wars is too kiddy for that age group now with all the emphasis on toys. Supposedly. Or something.

Videogames are HUGE right now, Pewdiepie has 10 billion YT views for a reason.

I have a feeling GL is making more money off the success from this movie. :lol

Eventually this will definately happen, but only after E9 me thinks.

Honestly was there much fanfare for AOTC or ROTS? I really don't remember too much excitement. More like something that just had to be done. "Well, as long as its better than the last." we all kept saying.

If Episode 8 is good, I can see the hype continuing to nine. But people are going to get sick of the spinoff films really, really fast.

That's what I mean. Disney is worse than Lucas in terms of marketing and "spin-offs", as we all already know. I'm going to be so sick of Star Wars by this summer, I guarantee it. Too much of a good thing. Like eating too many sour bears in one sitting.

How good can "Rogue One" really be? And if you like that, then you'll love "Rogue Two" on Disney Kids.... and "Rogue Three" on Tween-Disney... and "Rogue Squared" on D2.

I think the spinoff films will have a chance of being good but like you said, it's going to get old really really fast. There's only going to be two spinoffs between 7-8-9 though, so hopefully the effects will be delayed a bit.

We've never really seen a trilogy "go the distance" before. There's really just LOTR but that series was unusual in that ROTK was fully filmed (minus some pickups) before FOTR was even released so it just had that pervasive thread of consistent quality throughout. If we already knew that Abrams had written AND shot Episode VIII and IX then I think that we might well be poised to get a second LOTR.

I'm very excited to see where the story goes but there's no WAY I'll be able to anticipate Episode VIII and IX the way I did TFA. There was just something about waiting for those first moments that Han, then Leia, then Luke appeared. It'll be great to see more of Luke in the next one (and obviously to hear him actually speak) and to follow the continuing adventures of Rey, Finn, and Poe but man, TFA is something else. After how Han's arc played out it's hard to imagine the drama being heightened going forward. Killing Luke or Leia will just be a lesser version of what happened to Han (and not very surprising at this point.) Will Kylo stay evil and be defeated? Be redeemed and go out in a blaze of glory? Somehow turn good and carry the shame of his actions? Whatever it is I don't see how it can top the death of Han Solo followed by Chewie freaking obliterating Stormtroopers while howling in agony, Rey catching that saber in midair, Leia quietly grieving back at the base, Chewie watching Rey fire up the engines of the Falcon with a quiet look that hints at respect...or pride, and then the reveal of Luke freaking Skywalker.

Luke can die sure, and I can see that being very emotional, but really, you kind of expect it. He's the "Old Ben" Jedi character so if he lives or dies it just won't have the same impact of what happened to Han. We'll see. I could be totally, TOTALLY wrong and the next two episodes just somehow blow me away even more but honestly that's pretty hard to imagine.

Someone I know -- unrelated to this board -- has a 14 year old son and that son, and all his knucklehead buddies, apparently were laughing through the movie and said it was so corny and silly. I can't speak for all 14 year old boys, but I know this kid and he's a pretty level-headed good kid.

I wonder how the "new" generation feels about this movie -- or is Star Wars really just "your father's franchise" and not for the next gen?

I remember Cofphoto's video -- he cried, his son looked uninterested and said about Han: "Look its the guy from Ender's Game."

I think it did, yes. A Star Wars 30 years further ahead. I think everyone's been poisoned by the PT when it comes to what to expect from a Star Wars movie. ANH really did start out as an Adventure Story... and I felt this was an Adventure Story. Even if much of it is forgettable after 1st viewing.

My kids loved it, as did all their friends.... ages 10-14.
Even my wife liked it...she wants to see it again, and that is saying alot, for her.
