You know, I never got how Avatar made so much money . I hated that movie as did most my friends . Which is funny since those same friends love Force Awakens

Most everyone I knew loved it until it was no longer cool to love it, then they hated it. There are people on this board that did that.

I liked Avatar. I see no reason to hate on it.

There are certainly flaws worth criticising, even if they don't bother me. I get the "ANH part 3 (or 4)" critiques and such.

Exactly. I can be the biggest "fanboy" in the world about TFA but if someone says "I hated that they retreaded so much of ANH" what am I going to say? "No it didn't!!! You're wrong!!1!" :lol Obviously not, the flow of TFA is what it is and you're either okay with a very skillful retread or it might be a dealbreaker. Obviously you and I were fine with it.

If I had to call out what I thought were the most "questionable" parts of the movie I'd say the Maz character and the one in a billion likelihood of Han stumbling on the Falcon the first time it takes flight. But I guess with him you never tell him the odds and just go with it.

I know everybody here hates George Lucas, but he summed it up pretty well in the (excellent) making-of documentary on the TPM DVD/Blu.

Paraphrasing:
He says of TPM, "It's not going to beat Titanic."
Frank Oz: "Could someone explain that, please?"
GL: "You can't explain it, just like Star Wars. It just happens."

I don't hate George Lucas. Why? I don't like it that he wouldn't release the unaltered OT on bluray, but other than that. :dunno

People read into things to much these days. It's a space fairy tale. Enjoy it for what it is. If you didn't like it please don't waste your time and money on episodes eight and nine. And definitely don't waste your time in this thread trying to convince those of us who did like it what we shouldn't have. :)

Any who, I originally came to this thread to ask if the scene below was in the movie. I've seen it twice and honestly don't recall it. I believe the first and only time we see Phasma in the village is when she asks Kylo what to do with the villagers.

Yea that should have been left in. She is prolly leading all those men to be surrendered. Cause she was a wuss. All flash, no gas.

I felt the same way about the people criticizing Man of Steel watching BVS, but this is a film forum after all, a place where all opinions are welcomed, and if someone payed to see the film and has an opinion, this is the place to talk about it. In a way it's as much a waste of time to talk constantly about the positives as it is to talk about the negatives. If anything, opposite points of views is what makes a thread and ultimately the whole point of a forum interesting. Personally, I'm not trying to convince anyone about anything. For example, Khev thinks TFA is the greatest thing since Chris Evan's shirtless scene in CA :)monkey3), and I know no matter what I say, I won't change his mind, just like nothing he says will make me unsee any flaws this film might have. I think we can all coexist as long as people don't take things too seriously and get personal...it's just a movie after all.

See anyone who criticizes Phasma's importance or screen-time really can't be countered. There's no way around it. :lol I liked her but...if you wanted her to kick ass then I can definitely see how the movie would be lacking for you.

Yeah, Phasma was basically set-up for someone to antagonize Finn in the sequels.

Granted, getting all hyped about a character because they look shiny walking down hallways in trailers ain't exactly smart-brains. But I can see why people expected more based on the marketing.

That little dude with the animal cages on his back was another "Phasma" for me. Ever since he was the first character reveal of the entire movie in that little video Abrams did I assumed he'd at least have a speaking part. But nope, just stood quietly in line behind Rey at the junk dealer's shop. :lol

:lol c'mon you wanted the Han and Leia story flushed out......It's SW not Dr Phil :lol

Dr. No :lol

Anyone want to try and win me over on the "Maz" character? I'm a bit on the fence about her. Here's a repost of something I just said in one of the HT threads:

"Funnily enough I don't know how much I like the Maz character. She felt a little 'Avatar-y' to me. Just her CG look and the way she spoke I almost expected her to start going off about 'Eywa' or something."

Was the junk dealer on Jakku fully CG? I liked him. He was cool.

I will try.....

Ok, I give up, she sucked. :lol

Avatar is toast- TFA wil top it within two weeks. We live in a SW world from now on:)

Cameron is crying now- he better get thinking about something revolutionary and new to get back on top and Avatar 2-4 or whatever ain't gonna do that..!

The man should've made a SW movie dammit!

Honestly....I liked the Poe character but he wasn't vetted out enough to have feelings if he died in the fighter crash or on the assault. Anyone I had an "emotional" attachment to was on the ground. Kinda made the air assault less dramatic but visually appealing.

Maz was forgettable character. Her appearance served a purpose and we moved on.

:exactly:

Remember how Kylo's attempt to withdraw knowledge out of Rey's mind backfired. She pulled info out his head instead. Who's to say that she didn't download some of his fencing skills?

"You're afraid of not being as powerful as Darth Vader. And ah...that's how you deflect a lightsaber attack..."

Kylo: "S***!"

:lol

I took Luke's hiding being very similar to Yoda's to preserve the Jedi Order. Remember in the OT, the Empire was doing their thing while Yoda stayed hidden until the emergence of Luke.

Kylo and Snoke were out to wipe out the Jedi and Luke was the last until it awakened in Rey. With the awakening he could reveal himself

Good point,

in Darkseed I listen to now.

Forgive me. I feel it again... the call from light. Pturtle senses it. Show me again the power of the darkness, and I'll let nothing stand in our way. Show me, Difabio, and I will finish what the nitpicking that you started.

:lol :lol :lol

Come on, dude. If you're going to call someone out, you can't hit hyperbole warp-drive in the same post.

Bad writing, indeed. :lol :monkey3

The hyperbole was in my comments to Difabio, I was mostly joking, the Rey thing is real, she is the ultimate Jedi and by episode 8 she probably won't even need a lightsaber :lol

Oh come on, ClownPrince is doing nothing different than what you did with TDKR, except he’s actually being far less nitpicky here :lol

This is one of the few movies where I didn’t have to watch the movie 10 times to find issues, they’re so in your face. Even if some of these issues that ClownPrince is bringing up has answers, its a testament to some bad directing from J.J. that played a part in some scenes just not working. I for one think Rey being the ultimate jedi in about 10 minutes is bad writing. It’s also funny how people are bringing up the prequels help make points to why certain things make sense in TFA while at the same time admitting the prequels are crap.

After previous blockbuster movie threads, I have seen the light.

ClownPrince, my grandson. It is not worth your effort, save your energy for Rogue One next year.

That's assuming we know how much fighting experience she has, but we don't. We don't know anything about her training so far. Luke in a ANH didn't fight Vader, it was about 3 years later and after he received more training from Yoda that he went up against the villain and lost the fight.

She fought off 2 dudes with a stick
