Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is another one. An okay movie but again, far below MM and TRW. The only way I'd want Abrams to do all three is if he pulled a Peter Jackson and filmed them all at once.

Hmmmmm, I like the idea of three different directors, but this "filming them all at once" concept is something that's always appealed to me. Doubt Disney would go for it, though.

Joss Whedon best stay the **** away from Star Wars...

But, really..

Star Trek > Star Wars

Better acting, better explained and intelligent sci-fi stories all around..all Star Wars has going for it for me personally is a high nostalgic value and love for the iconic characters within the Saga, even if they had little to no lines and little screen time, and that is pretty sad actually...so overrated.

Nolan...well, I personally don't like TDKR all that much. I can't call it crap but it just wasn't what I wanted to see.

I wish he'd done his third film in two parts - with the amount of story he was trying to tell, it seemed like that's what he really wanted to do, anyway. It's like he also just wanted to wrap up his Batman days and be done with it, and that urge won out. As a result, a lot of the film needed to be overly wrought with exposition, or done with flashbacks, or felt kinda truncated - would have been nice to actually see Talia as Talia before she croaked. Reveal Talia as the true villain in part one and end that movie with "What happens next?" "War."

But I digress.

If J.J gives us a more interesting Star Wars then what he has in store for us with his next Trek movies then, i might be a little pissed off and feel cheated..Star Wars after all is a property aimed more at children.

Old batman IS a disjointed mess.

Superman is a disjointed mess.

it CAN go either way. It's a minor concern, but my point is, the wrong director CAN screw the pooch.

and yes, the same director can do it too,

I trust Kathleen Kennedy knows what she's doing. And I'd dare say the franchise has its best leadership now since Kurtz left. Bringing in Kasdan and making a hire like Abrams (and considering Affleck) are extremely positive signs. They're not messing around.

Star Wars may be about to return from its days of wandering the wilderness. I for one am cautiously optimistic now.

Yup, best to stay cautiously optimistic for now anyway. Best to wait till some plot points get leaked.

I myself think it should go something like this.

Star Wars: Episode VII

Yoda, Vader, The Emperor, are dead.
Leia has come into her Jedi/Force powers.
Luke is the new Jedi Master teaching a new class of soon to be Jedi the ways of the force. The class includes Han & Leia Solo's young adult children. They must all work together to take on a new threat to the galaxy! :D

My choices to direct would have been Abrams or Whedon but I didn't think either would have the time with everything else they had going on. I still can't believe this is really happening!

I don't understand Monster, why would you want the entire cast of the new films to be unknown?

I can't envision any of those names he mentioned on the top of a movie poster....'Peter Mayhew' maybe :dunno

yeaa ! before avengers I had no Idea who this guy was. I mean he did a great job with the avengers but he dosent have what it takes to direct the biggest franchaise of our time. J.J has more experience when it comes to space sifi.

he is a great choise.
