They (Disney) better not be so involved with LFL's home video releases that they squash the option of 3D as they've continually done with their own homegrown films (Frozen, Big Hero 6, Maleficent and Cinderella.) I was counting on LFL being another Marvel or Pixar so we could get 3D stateside.

Asked someone at LFL about that recently ("Will there be a 3D option on Blu-ray?") and while they said that they THINK so... even they weren't even sure. It's all Disney, with some supervision from Abrams. Kennedy has moved on to ROGUE ONE and EP8, which makes sense.

The video release date changed from April to TBD, so I think Disney may have been surprised by how Successful the film was, think they anticipated 1.5 billion instead of 2+ billion. Or, the release date was arbitrary, because when this is set for video release, there is no way you'll be able to escape the advertising.

The April release date always seemed extremely premature to me. If I was a person who didn't really enjoy the theater experience, knowing that the movie would be out on video in less than 6 months might be enough to get me to postpone my viewing,

@xipotec You wouldn’t include the Lord of the Rings? I’ve never listened to a movie sound track before (I’m a vocals guy), but that’s the only movie besides Star Wars, the Godfather, and the Dark Knight Trilogy that I remember outside the theme songs (and sadly, I can barely remember theme songs unless they’re extremely popular like Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark). It’s my favorite!

As I said, I’ve never listened to the soundtracks before, so I don’t know the names, but I remember:

The Darth Maul vs Obi-wan and Qui-Gon theme (TPM)

The theme when Anakin watches his mom dies and he kills the sand people (AotC)

The Opera theme where the Emperor tells Anakin about his master (RoS)

The theme where Anakin leads the Clones to wipe out the Jedi (RoS)

The theme where Yoda fights the Emperor (RoS)

The theme where they’re paralleling Darth Vader’s birth with Padme’s death (RoS)

The Star Wars theme (Star Wars)

Dark Vader’s theme (TBSB)

The thrown scene where Luke fights Vader (RoJ)

I don’t remember any of the music from The Force Awakens. I can't even remember if most of my favorite movies even had music, so I'm not knocking it!

Does anyone else find it as odd as I do that we're now just over a month until the Blu-ray/DVD release but it hasn't actually been officially announced or solicited yet?

I mean, there have been (unofficial) leaks and Amazon has listed it... but it technically hasn't been announced yet. And that would seem a tad last-minute for a major retail release. Just kinda odd, especially for LFL who is usually Johnny-on-the-spot with these types of things. That leads me to believe that Disney has their fingers in the home video release pie, because they really slow things down with their endless red tape.

April 18th confirmed in UK. Seen on a promotional Duracell pack.

What's the problem with 3D Disney releases in the states? Every Disney release has been 3D over here. So I would be surprised if TFA doesn't get one straight away. Unless it's a new fan milking strategy. :lol

I just said what I would do, if I were in charge. :)

:panic:

Remember that TFA is involved in a huge mess of the 4K/HDR technology battle for licensing.

Just give me my damn 3D 1080p for now and i'll worry about 4K/HDR by Black Friday.

I applaud Disney for sticking to their guns and not promoting gimmicky nonsense like 3-D movies. :clap :clap :clap

. . .unless we're talking Friday the 13th Part 3-D. Because that is an artistic decision.

:lol :lol :lol

I saw F13th 3D opening night in the 80s and what an incredibly memorable experience that was simply because it was the first time 3D had actually worked for me.

None of those 3D home broadcasts of the old horror movies ever worked for me in the 70's/80's.
