But the tension at the resistance base when the FO was coming after them at the climax seemed forced when compared to ANH.

Their dialogue had no weight.

Oh well, I still like the movie. :lol
Yeah it was, I like Leia's sense of urgency the most. The rest was a little atmosphereless. A small hiccup.

Any sign of the 3D Blu yet?
Damn, hard to know where to order from, looks like it's out in US a week or so before UK, but I haven't seen any mention of a 3D set yet.

I wonder if it's the same lithograph set that came with the digital pre-order packet at Walmart. If so, warning: they're only about 9" x 6" in size.
When the special editions and prequels were first released on Blu Ray, the Target exclusive was similar to that. So, I suspect it is something like that. They show the lithograph photos on that link (I think).

JJ 's gift is casting. I am on of the few who loves the new Star Trek movies, and they work for me because of brilliant casting.

Though JJ would have the final say, isn't it up to the casting director to find the actors for the roles?

Most all Directors take a significant role in choosing the actors, especially for the primary roles. Would be crazy not to, since so much hinges on having the right actor for the role.

They might leave the casting director to pick and choose the actors for some of the far less signicant roles, like background characters.

Ah! Didn't notice, thanks. Those are different. The ones that came in the Walmart package were all the various posters (Teaser, Release, IMAX, etc). I'm glad the Disney variant has different prints, but yeah... they'll surely be pretty small in size.

The Casting Director mainly puts together large pools of different actors to read for various roles and I'm sure has the Director's ear, but the Director almost always makes the decision and has final say (often with input from Producers, of course). The Casting Director's main contribution is in casting the minor roles.

Yeah, the whole "intelligence" debriefing on Starkiller Base was a bit suspect. In the span of one conversation Admiral Ackbar goes from clueless "How is it possible to power a weapon of that size" to an expert "the base has shields we cannot penetrate." :lol Who cares though, that's the luxury of a movie that good. You just chuckle and gloss over little things like that, just like no one really cares that Tarkin didn't just blow up Yavin or that the snowspeeders didn't attack that AT-AT's from behind and so on.

Other parts of the conversation were good though, I actually *liked* the Asian guy and Han's "okay so how do we blow it up" was a nice counterpoint to his eye rolling reactions to the DS attack in ANH.

Sweet, official confirmation of the 4/5 release date as well. I'd actually like to have an 8x10 of that Han/Chewie pic. Hmmm.

I'd like to have one signed by both Ford and Mathew :lecture (Yes, that actually is Mayhew in that shot... and the ones sitting in the MF cockpit. The rest are the new guy).

No way. Are you sure? Chewie's little mannerisms/head bobs were so seamless with how he appeared in the OT. I assumed all of his reaction shots ("we used to have a bigger crew," "wasn't he a war hero," "oh, you must be so brave...") were Mayhew. If not then the new guy is freaking awesome.

New guy did SOME of those. Not sure exactly which ones, though.
