Whoa, you're getting a *new release* on blu-ray? How does that mess up your "one movie per decade" system? Does that mean Miller's Crossing just got pushed out to the 2020's?

:lol :lol

Often joking, sometimes serious but never deliberately intending to antagonise has been my observation of the Jye.

I've still only seen TFA once. I will watch it at home at the earliest opportunity.

:lol

a-dev gets it right. :yess:

a-dev is a renowned expert at studying jye's both in the wild and in captivity, listen to him.

How many times did you watch each of the prequels in the theater? Be honest. :tap

I know you didn't ask me but I went to see them plenty of times. :monkey4

I had convinced myself that the Darth Maul fight made it a very good SW movie.

I don't know WTF I was thinking with AOTC. :lol

ROTS I had once again convinced myself that it was salvation of what had come before because by then I knew that TPM/AOTC were disasters.

It kills me that I can edit my own post but am powerless to change your quote :lol

I hear you. I've been tempted on more than one occasion to use my mod powers to edit someone else's post just so I could update one of my typos that they quoted. I haven't actually done it though...yet.

Yep, we were all deceived, all of us. :lol

I can't believe I actually read "The taxation of trade routes is in dispute" four separate times on the big screen and once in *3D.* :cuckoo:

This might sound crazy but I just finished watching all the trailers for TFA and would you believe that they still give me goosebumps!

Heck yeah, I still watch them on occasion to tide me over until the blu-ray. :yess:

Believe me I totally get the frustrations some had with TFA, even my own after 1st viewing due to the carbon copy narrative and Han's treatment but man when you compare it to the PT you simply just accept the fact that it is a far superior movie BECAUSE of the carbon copy being thrilling in its own unique way.

Everyone is in agreement that it was the SW movie we should've got back in 99.

Rey was so very likeable.

I can't help but wonder how this movie would have been received if the OT was never tainted with SE "enhancements" and the PT and CW/Rebels TV shows never came out. If it was always just the mighty OT and then...TFA. I've got to imagine that its box office would have been even higher due to not having lost however many fans on account of Lucas' ever increasing insanity.

I assume the critical consensus would have still been "better than Jedi, not quite as good as SW and ESB" but I think audiences would have devoured it up even more.

This is a very good point :goodpost:

I doubt it would have been more successful without all that, one of the reasons it did so good was because it was a "palate cleanser", so I doubt the reception would've been this good if it came right off the stuff it's borrowing from. Probably would've gotten more criticism because it would be even more noticeable.

When you think of the "retro" methodology implemented in its filming TFA actually could have been made "as is" in 1999 or the early 2000's. No 3D obviously but we would have had even younger versions of Ford, Hamill, and Fisher. Rey, Poe, and Finn would have been different obviously. Maybe Keira Knightley and Andy Lincoln at their "Love Actually" ages could have been Rey and Poe. Adam Driver would have been 19 or 20 I think so he could have still been Kylo. Funny to imagine the "what ifs." :lol

True, very true but Gaspar is right it would've had even worse scrutiny had the carbon copy narrative stayed the same.

But man this so could've been done in 99 with an even younger primary cast.

It's true it could have gone either way. On the one hand people might have gone "three out of four SW movies have a Death Star thing, come ON!" On the other hand I bet there'd be less criticism of Kylo because no one would be prone to saying "hey he's whiny like Anakin was!1"

Regardless, if the saga didn't *need* a palate cleanser TFA would have never been made the way it was anyway. JJ Abrams has said many times that he felt that SW "needed to go back before it can go forward" obviously in reference to the damage done by the PT.

We wouldn't be tainted by annoying PT C3PO and Pod racing engines in the background wouldn't bring up negative feelings.

If anything we would've been blown away by the aggressive storm troopers after how they were beaten by the Ewoks!

Keira Knightley and Daisy Ridley are the same person, dude.

'Tis true. :lecture
