Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I have always felt that the clone wars should have begun at the end of Ep1, with the bulk of them in Ep 2 with Anakins fall at the end, thus leaving Ep3 to deal with Vader taking down Jedi.

Amen.

TPM: Essentially the same premis, but I would have had Anakin been 15 or so when first found by the Jedi. Remove any scenes with his mother and the mention of :monkey4 midichlorians. Can still keep the pod race, the Federation droids, Padme as Amidala, Maul and the Senate.

AOTC: As Pix said Clones Wars is already going on by EII. Mid film Anakin kills Dooku, gets kicked out of the Jedi and joines the Emperor. By the end of EII you have the Obi-Wan, Anakin battle. Ends with cliff hanger of Padme learning she is pregnant at the same time she learns of Anakin's death.

ROTS: Begins with Anakin being reborn as Vader. He has no idea Padme was ever pregnant (she delivers during the scroll) and believes she is a traitor to the Empire. Most of EIII consists of Jedi hunting. We see Padme take care of Leia long enough to form the impression Leia recalls in ROTJ. We see Obi-Wan take an infant Luke to Tatooine. Padme is then killed by Vader still with no idea she ever had children. Vader and the Emperor relish in victory and discuss how they'll hunt the coward Obi-Wan. The Emperor makes one last snide comment about how Skywalker brought balance to the force.

I agree,I always thought episode 1 and 2 should have been one movie, cutting all of episode 1 and maybe keeping 15 20 minutes of it and go more into anakin the hero of the clone wars ,episode 3 would have been fine as episode 2 and a new episode 3 were vader kills jedi.instead of order 66,anakin as vader could have went after all remaining jedi.oh well, what's done is done and I liked episode 3 so I can complain and voice my opinions all I want but I doubt disney is gonna use me as a consultant for a remake of star wars.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Agree, Prog. That would have been a great way to show Anakin/Vader's origin.

And I can see an intermediate form of Vader, where he still doesn't have the full mask. maybe just the breather part like Darth Malgus (which I envisioned way before D Malgus was in existence!). Then when we first see him in Episode IV, it's a cool reveal that he has degraded even more to the point that he needs the full helmet.

It's interesting, & funny at the same time.

Lucas' story of good intentions gone bad, is ultimately just like his SW film legacy. :monkey1

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Personally, I always thought it would have been cool if Maul had found Anakin on Tatooine, sensing his power. He could have appeared to him in Mos Espa and tried to tempt him. Showing off his force power by stealing food from a vendor (in a subtle way) and giving it to Anakin. Anakin would have balked that it was wrong and Maul could have planted the seeds in his head that it was wrong for him and his Mother to go hungry. That if it (the food) was there, that he should just take it in order to care for those he loved. Maul would have been hooded to avoid scaring him, and would have slipped into the shadows when he saw Qui-Gon approaching. Maul wouldhave then reported the presence of the Jedi and of Anakin to his Master. Just a small scene really, but it would have done so much to add depth to Maul's character and plant the seeds for why Anakin was so sought after by Sidious.

I really like this idea, although the scene would have ultimately been brought down by Jake Lloyd's reprehensible acting.

Sounds lame.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I personally love Maul's presence in the film just the way it was. George seemed to understand Boba's appeal to audience and actually somewhat replicated that popularity with Maul (badass dude, little dialogue and mysterious background). Too bad he mucked it up in AotC by revealing Boba's contrived origin and then redubbed his lines with a PT actor....

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

the new saga needs a slow simmer vibe with a threat of consequence… in ESB when Yoda said "there is another"… it wasn't just "who is the other?"… it was also "oh… that means Luke may not have this thing tied up!". the PT didn't provide this… it was simply scene to scene to scene. with the luxury of 6 movies in the foreseeable future, a little slow simmering is necessary to keep the audience involved. granted, scripts such as this are written with cereal tie ins in mind… with Burger King or KFC sponsorships considered… writing a good Star Wars tale, with the wealth of continuity and rich character base it holds would be a no brainer without these prerequisites… but it would be a naive venture. it has to be written for the 10 year old within everyone... but also as a vehicle for every type of corporate tie in as well… throw enough ideas around, and this is totally possible.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

What's gonna happen is this.

JJ is gonna try to get that OT feel back again, and he is gonna succeed on about 90% of that. I see the story being good, acting, plot points all of that. Will the OT magic be back? Yes and no. (but that will be good enough) But we will all be excited to see this new SW that's actually good and we all NEVER thought would happen.

Remember SW doesn't need to be epic, it needs to be good. And when SW is good it's great. And this will leave episode 8 in good position to be taken over by another director to further the series.

My prediction.

90% would be perfect... the ewoks and the song and dance numbers won't be missed.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

There's a link that was just posted in the Whedon section confirming that Joss was offered Episode VII but he turned it down in order to direct Avengers 2 instead. :yess:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

He was approached (after Abrams initially turned it down first), but he was never formally offered.

I'm guessing Joss may get a chance with 8 or 9. He and JJ seem so well suitted for this kind of thing, especially with the 'bickering band of heroes' angle.

VII: JJ Abrams
VIII: Brad Bird
IX: Joss Whedon
