I think in totality, Lucas was just a bad director and script writer. He is an amazing idea and conceptualist, but he simply did not do good script wise nor structure wise. Perhaps it was a good thing that he stepped back and had other people help assemble the movies.

Can't argue with any of that. Not saying that you have to like RO or anything, just that I disagree that the fact that there were reshoots somehow proves that it wasn't a solid film.

I said during the reshoots that it was always going to be a win/win for him as long as he didn't do a Trank and he's way too intelligent to do that anyways.

Movie is good he receives all the praise regardless of the reshoot drama.

Movie sucked he can point towards the reshoots as his way out, not my fault.

I'm glad that it was the former lol.

I'm curious if he had his edit, how the movie would've turned out. I think it would've been more of a total film, instead of some head scratchers as to why this guy was in it or why they did this.

Well perhaps understanding what I felt was wrong with it. Like Bodhi. I'm insane, wait, not anymore. Then with Saw. He's against the Empire, yet the Rebels need to take him out? I liked the paranoia angle, but they bailed on it. Would've been interesting to the Rebels break out of there. Also with assassinating Galen. The Death Star is built and operational. It's really too late to take him out to make a difference now.

Also, the parts of the trailer with Jyn on the run with the plans and the Tie Fighter at the end of the platform. That would've been a more "heroic ending" seeing them run into AT-AT incoming fire. Really serve to the "heist" plot in trying to get away instead of just action. Then dumb stuff I don't like calling a planet "Jedha" like "Jedi" and "Wobani" rewording "Obi-Wan". Lastly, IMO, have Vader mow down some Rogue One members. Would've really liked Vader being more relevant to the story instead of just fan service.

If Disney has additional character building material that would actually make a difference and have a positive impact on the film then I would absolutely love to see them do an extended cut, especially since the OT have extended cuts and this wasn't even one of the episode movies anyways.

But it can't be at the expense of slowing down that 3rd act any further.

When you go from the PT to TFA/RO it becomes really easy to forgive the faults of the new movies.

Well if you're ready to brush off that Vader attack as just frivolous fan service then well...the Emperor has already won.

I don't think that the Edwards cut would've made any difference if you're abandoning ship on what is the most bad ass Vader scene to ever grace a SW movie.

I want a manchurian candidate style thriller SW movie just as much as the next guy but I also want to see Vader kick ass and massive space ship battles as well.

Lucas always admitted that he wasn't a good writer in the 70s. He knew what his strengths and weakness were and hated writing. It goes all the way back to THX 1138. Friends like Francis Ford Coppola and Spielberg always encouraged him to keep trying though.

There are brilliant concepts and themes running through the prequels and the stories are far from bad, the screenplays just suck. It's hard to believe he only spent a couple of months writing the scripts for each of those movies when you see that something like Empire Strikes Back took a full year to develop. If Lucas had just taken all the wealth of great things he thought up for the prequels and gave them to a competent writer and maybe collaborated with his filmmaker friends, he'd have been golden.

I remember interviews from the 80s after he tired himself out with Star Wars where his original plan for the movies was having other filmmakers try their hand at them for the prequel Trilogy (Episode 1-3) and sequel Trilogy (Episode 7-8). Like Star Wars was this theme and other artists could come along to experiment and do their own thing with it. I guess he did do that in a sense when it came to the universe with the novels, stories, animated shows and games, but helming all three prequel films was a mistake

That THX movie sucks hard lol.

Well, his dream came true then with Disney at the helm.

Besides I don't believe for one second that he doesn't give any input.

I'll bet he's even boning KK on the side.

Lucas completely redeemed himself by allowing Harmy to restore the OT and then selling the franchise to Disney. He was *already* a billionaire, God knows he didn't need another cent. So now we are getting an anthology of SW films from talented directors which is what the PT should have been in the first place. He screwed up with the SE's, and then again with the PT, but he made things right.

He definitely shares credit for everything I like about TFA and RO and will always be a legend for American Grafitti (a fun background movie that never gets old,) SW OT, and Indiana Jones.

It just sucks it had to be Disney. I hate seeing that logo on everything. ****ing evil bastards, I'll probably end up in a FEMA camp that's owned by them when I'm older.

And I doubt he's happy about it, he compared the deal to selling his kids off to white slavers. :lol

Wait, he approved those Harmy releases!

He made it known he was aware of them in an interview with someone who asked what he thought of fan edits. This was back when Harmy had only done 1.0 versions of SW and ESB and was still working on Jedi. Lucas could have brought the legal hammer down and instead turned a blind eye. For that he has my heartfelt gratitude.

Well he was famous for hating the studio system hence never moving to Beverly Hills, but old age softened him up enough to where he just decided selling his kids to satan was the best course of action while he went on his dark meat adventures.

This is what being a cuckold does to a man.

Curse Marcia Lucas!

I love space battles and this one was amazing. And of course the Vader scene was as badass as it gets. Just felt like it could tie into the climax before all the Rogue Ones get killed. Kind of deflated then inflated again.

They really need to do like a Darth Vader: Jedi Hunter or Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith movie where he just pwn's everyone.

I do think too much of a good thing can diminish their worth.

I know that sounds silly considering we'll be getting 15 Star Wars movies every year but Vader is great now when used sparingly.

And who is the main character? Who is the audience supposed to identify with? What would the plot even be?

Sounds more like watching a video game than a movie.

I wouldn't mind a new Vader film if they can find a way to make him a good protagonist given that he's a villain. Also, Hayden Christensen is the same age Vader would have been in his prime during the 20 years period between ROTS and ANH. They should give him a shot with a good script and a good director.
