Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Is it odd that I have zero issue with that? I'm not sure if it's because I've gotten so used to the prequels, or because Ewan's homage to Guinness' performance was eerily bullseyed.

Actually I feel the same. The idea of Ewan talking to Mark Hamill's Luke is pretty interesting. Having said that it could also mean Hayden Christensen could be back. I dunno, maybe as long as the overall film was good I could tolerate such a thing.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I was against Palpatine force ghost initially. But I have been convinced that it could be a good device to move the story forward. I guess I would welcome Ewan back into the fold too...

Just please do not invite Ahmed Best back. Please.

Ewan MacGregor is by far the best actor in the prequels (granted that's not saying much). He is also a very likeable guy and his version of Obi-Wan was pretty spot on. I hope this is true.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Here is the thing. I think people will have less of a deal with this because they liked Ewan (not to say that they didn't like Ian) if it were Hayden Christensen announced as returning as a Force Ghost we'd see the boards implode.

It's still a dumb idea. This is or at least was supposed to be a new generation within this universe with sprinkles of the old right? Now we've got rumors of Han, Luke, Leia, Palpatine and Obi-Wan returning? You know there is a 90% chance if they are Force ghosting the hell out of everyone that Yoda will probably be back and so this seems less like a new universe with touches of the old and more like a Kevin Smith film where you see all his older characters milling around instead of something new and innovative.

Now these are all rumors and might not be worth their weight in anything but if it comes to pass then I don't think it's that great. I would have rather Abrams just reinvent the entire universe ala Star Trek.

It goes to show you how great of an actor EM is for him to have elevated himself above all the crap in the PT.

Despite the horrible costars, horrible writing and directing, horrible green screen environments and so on and so forth, his Obi-Wan still shined.

Portman was not able to push thru all the crap like he did.

Yeah, Portman was the exact opposite of McGregor. McGregor managed to rise above the poor material, where a good actor made his role better than it should have been. But Portman, a great actress, was brought down to the level of the movie.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Remember the Phantom Menace Doc when GL annoying kids met EM for the first time and they wanted to keep his hair that was being shaved.

Ughhhh, poor EM. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I would definately approve of Obi-Wan returning for Ep VII, in moderation, just as Obi-Wan was in moderation for Ep V and VI.

There is a delicate balance to a cameo. It needs to be longer than a minute otherwise its totally lame, but it needs to be short enough to remain a cameo and not steal from the whole plot.

I would love an Obi-Wan film that either occurs after Ep III or is part of a Clone Wars story, but I think Mace and the other less beloved Jedi would be better for a side film.

Want that 7 Jedi film.

As it stands now, I just make believe that the clone wars from the PT were not the real clone wars that were mentioned in the OT. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

how would Luke even recognize Obi Wan?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

The reaction we're hoping for when we see Luke, Han and Leia for the first time is this:

:mexwave

I hope we don't end up with this though:

:monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Totally cool with this news. Although Ewen will never act in front of a set though...being a ghost who has to be added later.....:(

Great post. I agree 100%. I like Portland but she was a lame-o in the PT. If I ever watch the PT now its just to watch the Obituaries scenes.

So much about the PT I have to ignore due to this fact. I never saw the Clone Wars as they were presented, I never imagined Yoda with a lighsaber let alone flipping and bouncing around like a crack monkey and I never pictured the Emperor as scarred. I always saw the Emperor as just anciently old. Characters like the Emperor and Boba Fett were so cool in the OT. I loved the mystery of them. I've read a few EU books but never anything on those characters so if they were expanded upon I never knew. The only thing I knew was what was on screen.

Then Lucas became a weirdo billionaire surrounded by yes people.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I'm all good with Ewan returning as a force ghost, theres no reason they can't do practical effects to make him blend into an even more Alec Guinness look.

As far as a solo Obi Wan movie, bring it.I'd love to see the story from Obi Wan Kenobi to Old Ben.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

With technology today, just use Alec Guiness for the scenes.

They have enough of his image and voice to create new footage of him.

Or am I possessed by Satan for even saying such a thing. :lol
