Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I'd rather not have Emperor back, but if its bound to happen anyway, which it seems like it, I can see the force ghost having as much impact, no more no less than Obi-Wan did as a ghost. Whats his motivation? Pure evil. Just as Obi-Wan's is pure good. Evil needs no motivation. Its a universal truth. Evil just "is" (from a storytelling standpoint anyway lets not get philosophical).

To me a Sith or Jedi needs to have had a prior relationship in order to appear as a ghost to the other. For example, I think Qui-Gon could force communicate with Obi-Wan and Yoda, but not Luke. Obi-Wan can communicate with Luke but not Luke's apprentice, etc.

I think it could be feasible that Palpatine could force communicate with Luke due to their brief force connection on the DSII, but not Leia or Leia's children.

What if they conjure him up while practicing the Dark Side? Kids today play with Ouija boards. I don't see why that wouldn't be at least tempting.

Most kids I know wont touch anything if it isnt part of their smartphone. Now a Ouija app, that would be different.

As far as the Emperor goes, I'm waiting to see how they use him before I get my boxers in a bunch.

Edit - Long time no see Nam.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

He messed up the "long time ago" line :lol.

I feel like I could hear every nerd watching, audibly mutter "galaxy" at their tv sets when they caught him saying "place" :lol

as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in "galaxy", and were suddenly silenced.................:monkey3

Latino Review scoops are always pretty exciting because they tend to come with a lot of credibility. Today, they report that Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi will return for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars. That makes sense. He is a Force Ghost, after all. The fact that he's not Alec Guinness is just something Star Wars fans will have to get over. They've had practice.

Latino Review also claims McGregor wants to do a solo film. That doesn't mean he's going to get one, but the idea has merit. If there was one consistently likable element to the Prequel Trilogy, it was McGregor's Obi-Wan. And if there's one thing I like about this whole Star Wars resurgence, it's the idea of standalone entries. So right there, that's two things I like. Math, for once, is on my side.

With all this talk about returning characters, I do get a little nervous that J.J. Abrams' version of Star Wars will suffer from the same tiny universe that plagued the prequels. I'm not a die hard Star Wars guy, but it would be so exciting if these were actually good.

Is it odd that I have zero issue with that? I'm not sure if it's because I've gotten so used to the prequels, or because Ewan's homage to Guinness' performance was eerily bullseyed.
