Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I haven't seen that. Was that originally supposed to be canon?

Still is. it's G-canon ( Highest, most official canon).

Nah, I kid. The Cartoon is considered G-canon I THINK, adnd the Characxters are as well, , and SO is the Life-day ( wookie thanksgiving) concept, but beyond that.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Nah - you're reaching. :lol

Competant, credible director, the big three on board to kick things off (all but trumpeted), revisiting classic film making methods, old names back on the production - there's more win than lose already without seeing a single scene. :)

SWHS?

The cartoon in that was sensational. :lecture

It'll definitely be a test of "rose colored nostolgia goggles" syndrome. They're alledgeedly bringing back as much of the OT as tehy can. 35MM cameras ( A mistake I think, but That's a different thing) director, actors. so we will see.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Full agreement.

Out of the Prequels, I like The Phantom Menace the best. It had Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon, Darth Maul (who was better than Dooku or Grievous), a better Obi-Wan, no Hayden Christensen and nothing that ****s on the originals (except for the midichlorian force and C-3PO bull ****). It also has a nice balance of real shooting locations, practical and special effects that the other two don't utilize nearly as much. It had the best lightsaber duel and soundtrack too. The movie was like a "return to Star Wars" after almost two decades of nothing. It's not great but atleast it has those factors (plus nostalgia) and isn't Clones or ROTS.

THIS!!! Although to be fair, I did like Christopher Lee's character of nobility and there are some great moments in AotC and RotS featuring Ian McDiarmid. There's some cool action stuff too throughout but overall I just can't watch them.

Heck I would accept a movie that rivals ROTJ at this point. However yes if there is even a slight chance we could get one that compares to ESB or even ANH...I would be a very happy camper.

RotJ isn't even as bad as people make it out to be. If the Ewoks were savage beasts and not as cute and cuddly, there's really little else that bothers me. Han used to bother me, but I've accepted his softened nature is simply a part of his character arc.

Absolutely agree!! I said it before and I will say it again, ROTJ is better then any of the PT movies were IMO. You get far more good then bad and to be honest I wasn't even aware that a lot of people were down on ROTJ until later in life when the internet came about. As a young teenager watching it in the theaters, I loved the film. I do understand now as an adult why some had issues with the film but overall still a fun SW film. Here are some reasons why at the time, the movie still blew our minds...

First time we see Jabba The Hut
Leia in a Slave bikini costume!! Nuff said. :)
Boba Fett using his jet pack and in action. Yes his death scene was less then stellar, but at the time he did more in that scene then both movies combined!!
First time we see a true Jedi Master in action using a green Lightsaber...what??? They have green ones?
The Rancor scene
The Biker Scouts with their cool speeder bikes!!
A new Death Star that looks cool with the not quite finished look!!
We see the Emperor for the first time in person
Yoda confirms Vader is the father to Luke and then dies!!
We get to see Old Ben again in spirit form who informs Luke that Leia's is his twin sister!! What???
Lando piloting the Falcon and watching Han's torment letting him do so.
Emperor's force lightning
Vader's redemption and seeing what he looks like under the helmet!!
Ewoks kicking Stormtrooper a$$!!
Seeing all 3 Jedi's standing next to each other at the end.

The list goes on in my head. So yeah, is ROTJ the best? No...but is it still a great SW film that out does the PT.. Yes!!

The ewoks were gonna cook Han, Luke and Chewie alive and then eat them....

:lecture Awesome!

I was with you every step of the way... until you got to the, "Ewoks kicking Stormtrooper ***!!" part.

C'mon, you've got to admit. That battle, on the forest moon of Endor, was laughable.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

With ROTJ, I only love the beginning at Jabba's Palace and the end between Luke, Vader and the Emperor in the throne room. I hate the cop out that Luke and Leia are brother and sister. I hate the ewoks. I hate the Death Star II.

Only Endor related thing I like is the speeder bike chase.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Ewoks defeating Imperial troops IS a bit far fetched, sure.. :lol

However, 'never underestimate the will of the people' - that was the gist, I believe.

I hear ya, and that's where you can see Lucas beginning to get soft. It really showed in Episode I. :lol

Ok so this is you showing your age if you are serious. That scene was added in years later as part of The Special Edition. Originally we did not see Jabba until ROTJ.
