Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I think some of you may be over thinking the EU stuff a bit. Lucas gave Disney an outline of his vision of the next trilogy. Now Disney and JJ are focusing on using that outline but altering it to their liking. I don't think the EU is really priority in their heads. They may use some ideas from it if it makes sense but I don't think their goal is to make sure they satisfy everyone and figure out a way to make everything canon. Right now they are concentrating on making Episode 7.

I doubt they're following George's outline all that much, they have no obligation to.

Very true but they also have no obligation to follow any of the EU stuff either. In the end the future of this franchise rests in the hands of JJ and Disney for now.

I hate to say this for fear of encouraging another 12-page dossier on the vastness of the EU, but there's definitely $$$ to be had exploiting all the pre-existing possibilities from the EU.

Oh absolutely...and for those who like some of the EU stuff...there's no reason to stop liking it even if it doesn't go canon. A lot of franchises have alternate what if stories or what have you. So they exist and won't go away regardless. I'm just saying we shouldn't get too worked up over it since the odds are we are going to get new material.

I'm told GL's outlines are very vague, so they may even accidently follow them :lol

Its within these outlines that the original writer originally started and completed the 1st draft (Arndt), every indication is that the 2nd draft (Kasdan & Abrams) was a completely brand new story. However there's been no word on their script's construction other than it now features the OT stars in the main roles rather than any offspring, so can anyone definately say whats in or isn't in the film?

Honestly I don't really care as long as it is good. New story...old story....or EU stuff, just give us a solid SW film and I will be happy.

If Episode VII is merely as good as TPM was, then we will grow old and gray and look back on TPM with more fondness and warm fuzzy feelings because at least there was a huge hype machine that gives us all nostalgic memories. It had been so much longer of a wait for a new Star Wars movie. Episode VII is being made at a time when a lot of fans are tired and done with SW due to the quality of the prequels, countless amounts of merchandise being thrown at us with no end in sight, mediocre cartoons about the prequel era, and all kinds of EU media that ranges from awful to excellent. But to find the good, we trudge through the bad....

Episode VII has to be better than all the prequels. It has to be better than RotJ if it has a chance to survive fans' scrutiny in my opinion. I really do have high hopes at this point. I wish my expectations were lower but with the capable hands of those involved in its making, it's hard not to get excited.

Carrie fish as lost some weight. just seen her on that big bang thing.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

T'was. Ironically one of its weaknesses (its disconnect from the overall story) ended up being a strength because the films that did deal with the main story were embarrassingly poor.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Full agreement.

Out of the Prequels, I like The Phantom Menace the best. It had Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon, Darth Maul (who was better than Dooku or Grievous), a better Obi-Wan, no Hayden Christensen and nothing that ****s on the originals (except for the midichlorian force and C-3PO bull ****). It also has a nice balance of real shooting locations, practical and special effects that the other two don't utilize nearly as much. It had the best lightsaber duel and soundtrack too. The movie was like a "return to Star Wars" after almost two decades of nothing. It's not great but atleast it has those factors (plus nostalgia) and isn't Clones or ROTS.

Heck I would accept a movie that rivals ROTJ at this point. However yes if there is even a slight chance we could get one that compares to ESB or even ANH...I would be a very happy camper.

So the complete lack of mentioning Jar Jar means you absolutely looooooooooved the character. :lol

Eh, Jar Jar is in the other two too. He even looks at the audience in AOTC, just short of a wink like, "yeah, I'm still here *****es, what about it".

He is what he is. Hating on Jar Jar is part of the appeal of TPM so hesa not so bomb-bad. I'll take him over wooden acting, crappy "love" stories or the bastardization of my favorite Original Trilogy elements. The only good thing about the other two is Palpatine and his overacting.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Jar Jar is not even the worst part about it..... it was that stupid kid...
