Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

That X-Wing is a thing of beauty. It's amazing how it's instantly recognizable as being an X-Wing and yet the differences set it apart to be something new we've never seen on screen. And yet it's retro and familiar due to McQuarrie's concept art. I wonder if they'll look as beat up and worn out as that model does. I think it'd be neat to see some old X-Wings flying alongside of the these. Sorta like BSG had both the Mark II and the Mark VII Vipers flying side by side?
Are you getting the same Stealth X vibe from it that I am?

Smaller, more snub-nose X-wing, with larger engines, sleeker profile, painted matte black.

It fits the description ( Minus the paints) And would be a cool nod to a cool idea from the novels/comics.

for those who have NO idea what I'm talking about, the Stealth X's were designed for jedi pilots. They had minimal computer systems for guidance and sensors, with more powerful engines, and no proton torpedo launchers, but still carried the torpedo's, which were reffered to as "shadow bombs". Designed to be hard to see, and hard to detect by sensors.

They were designed to be flown by Jedi pilots ( Like Luke), who would use the force instead of relying on computer systems to fly them, similar to what luke does in the Death star Trench in New Hope.

Well it's definitely McQuarrie, the split engines, the snub nose etc.
Looks beautiful.

Yep, Ralph McQuarrie was a cornerstone to the OT - seeing his art come to life in this day & age.. brings warm feelings to my heart.

Yes, I get that vibe, but it doesn't need to be that. It could just be a new model of an X-Wing. Thirty years have gone by. A new model fighter was bound to come up. Either way it's cool!

It does, but A-Dev is gonna come and get you for posting that in here. :lol
It was the movie quote - I felt it was only appropriate to include the film scene still as well. :lol

..& hey - EpII Yoda was much better looking than the Ernest Borgnine puppet from TPM. :huh

In the way that Vader spared Piett at the end of ESB as per the scene I linked to?

That's one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. It foreshadows Vader's inevitable redemption. Is there any script or comprehensive notes of how RotJ would have played out had Kurtz stayed on as a producer? I've heard Han dies and Luke wanders off into the sunset alone or something. I'm curious to know what "might have been."

I can imagine a 3rd chapter guided by Kurtz where - on his travels, Luke encounters a tribe of hunters that show him their wares.

They consist of various tips of the hat to previous Lucas WIP 'gems' like shrunken ewok heads, the tanned skins of giant Tatooine sand v-jjs, & carved art made from their beaks. :monkey4

Ewok eyelids, a step made of Hutt tail.....
