Regarding Luke keeping the Skywalker name, I always thought Ben hid him in plain sight because he knew Vader would never return to Tatooine, as it was a reminder of his previous self.

But now the new (canon) Star Wars comics have blown that theory. They have Vader visiting Jabba's Palace.

True, and I loved those back in the day too. But these new comics will remain canon, as per the reboot and the Lucasfilm Story Group.
