2009 Star Trek has a 95 % on RT...that's higher than Star Wars, so you're not wrong.

I'm not a Trekkie, Trekker (sorry, doesn't sound any cooler), but I think people liked this movie as a reboot -- meaning recast did a good job emulating the old cast -- but maybe not as a good Star Trek story.

Those are old scores. Hell, Superman Returns has a 76%... should be much lower.


I really don't know what to make of RT scores half the time.

I think ST '09 succeeded because it had broad appeal beyond the installed fan base. Non-Trekkers probably rate it higher than Trekkers.

I haven't really watched it since the first time I saw it though. I hope that doesn't happen with Star Wars.

Perhaps, but he made what many consider the best Star Trek movie. Maybe he'll do the same for SW.

I haven't really watched it since the first time I saw it though. I hope that doesn't happen with Star Wars.

I'm not a Star Trek fan at all really. I sparingly saw the original series on reruns. None of the movies before JJ's. Watched almost none of ST:TNG, watched a surprising amount of DS9 really and nothing past. I always found it meh. JJ's fan made me a fan of the idea, made really connect with characters that I knew about because they were Pop Culture Icons but never really cared for previously. Made me want to own an Enterprise. A lot of hardcore Trek fans I know don't really like it. I loved it.

I love SW, I still watch the prequels despite not really caring for them. This feels like JJ did it right. Seeing the aliens being made, the ships being made, it just hit me in a way that Lucas never did with the BTS of the prequels and really hit that nostalgia button that makes you feel 10 again. The prequels didn't do that, even TPM which hit everyone who loves SW like a truck in terms of hype, didn't make me feel like a kid again, it made me excited that I was getting more. This does that.

Unfortunately that raises expectations so high but I have faith that the same guy who made me really like the new Trek (I even liked Into Darkness for the most part ) can make me really, really love Star Wars even more than I already do. The cast feels good, the sets and props feel good, it feels like the perfect storm here.

Seeing the gimble shot where Daisy is flying the Falcon made me really think about how freaking awesome that will look on screen.

Storm Quackers look ok, I still prefer the OT version, but they will suffice as long as the movie is good.
