For Jye

The dude leading the jedi with saber above shoulders is... pretty dopey.

What really bugged me about this scene is out of all the Jedi in the arena not one sensed Yoda arriving on the gunships, but padme did:slap

That's right, thats why Obi-Wan was able to defeat Anakin, he had the high ground. Just like Darth Maul had the high ground against Obi-Wan and...oh wait...

That's one of the many things that truly puzzled me. Did Lucas genuinely forget that Obi Wan was in the same lower ground position and therefore would have been defeated by higher ground Maul? Or was he saying that Obi Wan was so powerful that he is the only person to ever be able to get out from the lower ground position to victory? And if that's the case, we as the audience are supposed to know during TPM (at which point this whole higher ground thing has not been established) that anyone with higher ground is the winner, and are therefore supposed to be super impressed that Obi Wan managed to get himself out of that situation? Or is Obi Wan speaking from experience and telling Vader, "dude, I was in that same lower ground position just a few years ago and I definitely would have lost (except I didn't), so you should just give up now."?

Was that a plot point that someone in Lucasfilm could have mentioned to Lucas? "Ahem, Mr. Lucas, I have a quick note about this scene on page 325. Obi Wan tells Vader that he has the higher ground and there is no way he, Vader, could win. But isn't that the same position Obi Wan was in TPM and was able to not only able to regain the "higher ground" but also force retrieve his lightsaber and do a flippy flip and slice Maul in half in one fell swoop? Shouldn't that mean that Vader could do the same too?" Lucas: "You're fired."

I mean, all Obi Wan had to say was, "It's over, Anakin. Your legs and arm are burning off. You can't win."

Luke: What is it?
Obi-Wan: Your father’s light saber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. He used it to murder a classroom full of children.
