Jen Sorensen is clueless. She has it backwards. The "casting police" are ideologues who believe that there is a moral obligation to proportionately represent every segment of society within every intellectual property. Worse, they believe that the quality of a film can be assessed in terms of a demographic inventory, rather than placing primary emphasis on plot, dialogue, subtext, character design etc. We're to feel enthusiastic about the new Ghostbusters because the cast is all-female, despite the poor execution in creating the actual film itself. We're expected to love The Last Jedi because of the 'diverse' cast, the strong female protagonist and the progressive subtext, despite the lack of a compelling plot, character arcs, intriguing or successfully humorous dialogue, etc.

The mere presence of 'diversity' does not make an entertaining film. When the biological traits of the cast are the main selling point for a film, it's not only unappealing, but divisive. Studios inevitably accuse those who are displeased with the films for their poor execution as being sexist, racist, homophobic etc. This alienates both those critical of the films, and those who took solace in being represented by the demographics within the film.

I can only speculate, but feel as though we're being made to fight among ourselves, intentionally. Doesn't all this nonsense seem like propaganda, meant to divide us? Can we all agree, that promoting a film based on the genetic traits of the actors is a form of race/sex/sexuality-baiting? If so, I think they're messing with us. Wouldn't be the first time. Hollywood has a lengthy history of intentionally indoctrinating people, to alter their behavior.

Ugh, that Ghostbusters flick. That abortion was almost as bad as the Fantastic Four reboot. Good lord. I have only ever not watched, in completion, one Marvel film in my life and “that be the one son.” :lol

Those films are so bad that my brain has shoved the memory of them down a garbage chute of repressed memories. I know I rag the film a lot, but they both make Attack of the Clones look like a masterpiece, by comparison. :slap

Not ashamed to admit, I was not a fan of how they handled the return of the Ghostbusters franchise. Flip flopping the roles did not work to their advantage at all, for starters. It’s not quite as glaring of an issue with these Sequel Trilogy films though, to me anyway.

I agree. The casting of The Force Awakens was fine. I was glad that they cast John Boyega as Finn, because I really liked him in Attack the Block. I also think that Daisy Ridley's approach to Rey is appropriate. Her tone in delivering the lines she's been given is perfect for the Star Wars franchise. She's appropriately formal.

The problem is that the way in which these actors have been used, is exploitative. The worst example is what almost seemed like tokenism with Finn and Rose traveling to Space Vegas. They were shoe-horned into the movie, and pairing the two together while the other characters were predominantly white made it seem as if they were The Diversity Duo.

Upon my second viewing I've decided it's a worthy entry to the SW saga (but still not as good as ROTS!) :chase

The opening gag with Hux was cringeworthy though, as were most of the Porg scenes.

And I guess this scene either never happened or wasn't at Luke's Jedi academy...

Perusing the TLJ Visual Dictionary there's scant background on Snoke. JJ said he'd come back from the dead before, so maybe he will again?

It DOES mention that because he's not a Sith, the Chosen One prophecy remains intact.

You came here with that post, you’re braver than I thought.

Honestly, when he wrote that whole segment of the film, he must’ve been under the influence.

My first thought of hyperspace tracking involved some kind of traitor amidst the crew. And it even seemed like they were alluding to the notion, initially, from what I remember. Holdo would’ve been a perfect fit. Then, Leia might have ended up being the one to sacrifice herself in that epic moment instead. Which would have had a deeper impact, especially later in the film when Luke would essentially perform a similar act. Brother and sister till the end.

Buuuut, like I said, he wrote that subplot while he was taking a luxurious dump. :lol

Disney, Kennedy, Johnson didn't just pee on Star Wars..but us too....unfortunately so many it seems nowadays love golden showers

Where are we to draw the line? Just a movie? Yes....but can or does it have impact on our being whatever? Yes,yes it does,can,might..just like music, the press, school, work, who we grew up with,etc...its still part of our social environment...and for "its just a film"...hey if this was Valerian and city of a thousand planets, hey who would give a crap..oh but this was star wars buddy...this was an American institution, family,love,etc,etc....to be continued...

Does it get tiresome being a broken record?

It's just a silly movie made to make money.

The ST isn't Star Wars.

It's just somebody's fevered dream of what Star Wars might have been like in a parallel universe.

You can be a slave to it all, or you can take what you want from it.

It's only a movie.

Snoke will be back...and in greater numbers.

Seriously though, he'll return in some form and say something beginning with the words ''Did you really think....'' - which he'll say to Kylo and/or Rey but it'll also be a wink at us, the movie viewers.
