TLJ looks to be ending its run with $840m less than TFA's adjusted worldwide total, and $370m less than TFA's adjusted domestic total. TFA was a staggeringly massive hit both domestic and worldwide, but TLJ ending with the better part of a billion dollars less than TFA is pretty surprising.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, what the breathy box office boobs in the mainstream media don't seem to comprehend is that given that AOTC made a billion dollars worldwide adjusted for inflation, and was released on 25% less screens than TLJ, and that the "BRIC" markets including China and Russia essentially didn't exist 15 years ago...

TLJ performed pretty much equally to AOTC at the box office.*

*given that AOTC would in theory have earned $1.25B inflation adjusted if on the same number of screens as TLJ, and the BRIC markets added between $75m and $100m to TLJ's total - making AOTC's adjusted worldwide total close to TLJ's $1.35B.

I've never seen a movie get more throughly BTFO than TLJ.

TLJ lovers and lil' Rian on suicide watch.

Cause it deserves the hate, and more. A bad movie is just a bad movie. Garbage like Independence Day 2. You just think "christ that sucked" and go on with your life.

Making a Star Wars movie this monumentally effing terrible on every single conceivably level is just a violent crime against popular culture. It stays with the viewer. It's like the stink of a corpse you just can't get out of your brain.

some bad movies are just badly written, they are just failed projects. like a meal that had a little too much salt or was burned, tastes bad but, no harm done to you. the cook just made some mistakes
This movie actually goes out of its way to insult their audience (Specially the hardcore old fanbase) kinda like if I promised you a cheesecake but i knowingly fill it with onions and garlic, and then on top of it i put mayo instead of whipped cream..... you would be like "Wtf is your problem?"

I totally agree, I have seen many horrible movies in the last 10 years but this steaming pile of **** takes the cake. Its like championship game and Jordan just got a lay up and he takes the ball and throws it into the crowd laughing. I feel like Ruin Johnson purposely destroyed this movie to push some personal agenda against the fans , seriously how do you **** this movie up so mad. I can even forgive the prequels because at least they made coherent sense but this movie is like a fans nightmare, I still keep thinking it was a April fools joke in December.

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you but ermm you speak like this is the first bad Star Wars movie we've gotten...I have trouble with that. ''There is another''...in fact there's a few others. We should really be used to it by now.

none of them were done with the intention of alienating or insulting the fan base. none of them were done to force diversity without a good plot or evden a good reason to have these characters. George set out to do movies in the same universe, he might have failed but he wasnt looking to to alienate his male audience or female audience, or older audience or younger audience
he made a movie he hoped EVERYONE watched

Is all of that the basis of Otomofan's statements? I was only responding to the words he typed in that particular post.

the prequels were bad but they had good elements. they had good characters. they had good sets, they had good creature designs, they had good costumes, they had good memorable music. they had good spaceship designs, the world felt much bigger in those movies, the universe felt lived in and vast

This movie feels claustrophobic, it feels small. you are traveling through space and across planets and it feels extremely small and closed in. as big as the ships are and as big as the planets are, it feels... small. Almost feels like a tv version of a Star wars movie, a made for tv movie.
whatever good it has it was brought over from Force awakens, it brought nothing new that was cool (If you liked Rey Finn or Poe, those were characters established in the last one so it doesnt count, but the new characters like Holdo Rose and DJ were pretty bad)
and characters you were hopeful for like Luke Kylo and snoke were diminished. the sets werent memorable and some were horrible (casino) the action was not that great. there was nothing really innovative or cool as a stand alone characteristic of this movie. anything cool about it was either brought from the last one or from the first trilogy.

Rian Jhonson didnt really break new ground with this movie. he didnt create anything unique or cool. nothing in this movie stands out as great.
The Porgs, the greatest NEW thing this movie could ever had, were created by the special effects artists in order to disguise birds in the island. even the only new cool thing about the movie was an accident.

say what you will about the prequels but they had a lot of cool set designs and a lot of cool creature designs. visually the movie was very big, expanded a lot on the universe.

Otomofan was right

So supposedly Disney is shocked by the box office drop from TFA but also intentionally alienated the fanbase? How does that work?

Disney thought there would be a lot more suckers....sometimes controversy can increase interest and box office....not this time...if Holdo, Rose and Schnozzle were gorgeous chicks bet it would make more money on that alone....I have no doubts certain intended shoehorning took place...as to exactly what intent it was done we can also reasonably guess...to be sure I would need kennedy alone in a room for 1/2 hour(maybe quicker) to find the painful truth...

People said that about TFA aswell. To me it's a bit of an abstract complaint. It doesn't really mean anything to me.
