TLJ looks to be ending its run with $840m less than TFA's adjusted worldwide total, and $370m less than TFA's adjusted domestic total. TFA was a staggeringly massive hit both domestic and worldwide, but TLJ ending with the better part of a billion dollars less than TFA is pretty surprising.
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, what the breathy box office ****s in the mainstream media don't seem to comprehend is that given that AOTC made a billion dollars worldwide adjusted for inflation, and was released on 25% less screens than TLJ, and that the "BRIC" markets including China and Russia essentially didn't exist 15 years ago...
TLJ performed pretty much equally to AOTC at the box office.*
*given that AOTC would in theory have earned $1.25B inflation adjusted if on the same number of screens as TLJ, and the BRIC markets added between $75m and $100m to TLJ's total - making AOTC's adjusted worldwide total close to TLJ's $1.35B.
