Wait, was that grey background with dark Vader in the foreground a metaphor all along!

To me, Luke just did what was logical. You don't have to chop your dad's head off. How hard is it to have a little self control.

Obi-Wan and Yoda were ****ing dumb. Anakin and Palpatine were ****ing dumb. It's no wonder the Jedi and Sith are always extinct, they're idiots.

Too bad it looks like Luke has followed in their footsteps in the sequel trilogy.

Yooooo, that's what ended up happening to George Lucas!

Well you have the understand my perspective comes from seeing the films in the original order in the theaters as they were released.

The "Jedi" were an abstract , "Guardians of peace" . We had no other measuring stick than Ben....who sacrificed himself for the escape of the others.

I always viewed Luke as trying....key word here.....trying to live up to that standard.....he is definitely failing at that for almost all of ESB. Constantly struggling for control. He clearly screws up everything in ESB by getting too selfish and "good" trying to protect his friends.....He only shows he can live up to that standard Ben set after almost killing his father.......with anger......back and forth between control and loss of control. In the end he chooses to once again sacrifice himself to save his friends...not be the hero and save them, but sacrifice himself. which is how ROTJ should have ended......Luke dying with his father to save his friends....like Ben. Yoda tell him as much " if you honor what they fought for .....yes" giving rise to the idea that the ultimate good Jedi act is self sacrific....which oddly enough is what Vader does.

I think he tried again to be all good by creating the Jedi Training school......and this created an imbalance again.....giving rise to Kylo and Snoke ......

By the way......this is one of the reason I hated PT......The Jedi were a'holes......breaking their own code all over the place. At least from a narrow 1977-1985 perspective.

i'm just curious now how they're going to represent gray.

I mean will there literally be a physical color manifestation of those struggles lol

Yoda was not instructing Luke to sacrifice himself. The context of that conversation was whether or not Luke should let Han and Leia die.

And I don't think that Yoda was being a **** either, he simply didn't want Luke to go on a suicide mission that would neither save his friends nor defeat Vader. A bitter decision that often has to be made in war.

If the light and dark sides of the force are at their simplest form allegories for good and evil, why would Disney Wars want to promote the idea that to be the best and strongest force user (like their latest role model princess) it is no longer sufficient to just aim to be good (use the light side). You now have to exert the perfect balance over light and dark / good and evil and be Gray... That just seems like weird message to promote to impressionable younglings.

Gandalf surpassed his powers as Gandalf the Grey when he became Gandalf the White.

The Force cannot be simplified to a mere "Good and Evil". Its far more complex.

The conflict between darkness and light is a theme which resonates with people. That is why Star Wars was the huge success it was.

The grey in between doesn't resonate with most people unless you are the kind that is interested in minutia.

If you look closely you'll see a gray skittle hidden in there. May the Rainbow be with you.
