Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Ugh. Gotta wait till Monday. I've remained pretty spoiler free, but I have admittedly checked in the last few pages of reviews and comments here. Whatever Luke stuff happens sounds discouraging because like many of you, I sorta have a vision of how I imagined his life after 'Jedi'. If I find after seeing this movie, I can selectively ignore Disneys take, what are a couple Legends EU novels that folks recommend to get this taste out of my mouth. Stuff after Thrawn that's Luke heavy, maybe optimistic? A good 2 or 3 books/series I might look for.

Still holding out some hope I might like what happens in canon personally, with context of the movie and all, we'll see, but, man it sure isn't what I wanted to read today.

Set your expectations to stun I mean low ... No lower than that ... Ok maybe I wasn't clear set them to AOTC

From what you have said I think you might not like the direction they take Luke in. Good luck and may the force be with you

Um....WHAT?

Luke Skywalker was served up to Johnson on a platter and THIS is what he does with him. Made him a POINTLESS character that can't even put up a REAL fight and has to resort to astral projection to face his apprentice. What. The. Fuuuuuuuuuuu**.

This version of Luke Skywalker never should have been filmed. I completely agree with Hamill's complaints. Awful treatment of an icon. Just awful.

And don't even get me started on gravity defying/space flying Leia. I cringed horrifically.

Luke using the force like that was bad *** and unexpected. My theater cheered. SW fans have never seen something like that before.
Same with Leia, not to sure what was cringe about that scene unless your still under the childish impression that space will blow up your head in mere seconds. :lol

I thought she was really going to bite the dust.

What you call awful I call a pretty decent send off to an awesome character, and that's not saying he wont be back in 9 for some force ghost shenanigans.

Yeah, the stuff I hoped to see was 10 times better than the asinine, insulting crap they delivered, which you seemed to enjoy.

What other bad movies do you like? Push? Jumper?

2 years of sure certainty induced arguments whipped out in one scene. No wonder why you hated it, they literally did the exact opposite of everything you thought. They looked you in the eyes and called you *******.

I would hate it to it that were my case.

SNIKT, you might as well just log off for a month or two. :lol

Some of you OT purists sound like little kids upset at mom that you did't get your toy.

And how old were you when the OT came out? All I'm saying is that it's George Lucas story and his target audience was kids as he has repeated that several times, this comes from the creators mouth not my opinion. If that offends you take it up with George.. I'm not saying older fans have been left behind, I'm saying "Hardcore" older fans act like they've been left behind because the newer movies were not made the way they had envisioned in their minds. Most older fans hated the prequels but kids loved them even Jar Jar.

Completely, 100% wrong. I wasn't even born when the OT came out. Not even close. I grew up on the prequels.

I was 8 when Episode 1 came out and everyone hated Jar Jar even back then. Most of us hated child Anakin too and preferred to pretend we were Obi Wan. Even back in those days I got the sensation that these new movies weren't quite right, and the bad acting and sloppy writing became even more apparent as I got into my early teens and the prequels continued to go downhill.

These movies may be for kids too, but the exclusively kiddish elements are a sour spot on the franchise for everyone. No kid hates it more than when an adult talks down to them, and the sillier elements in the movie felt like just that.

Though on the flip side, I had no freaking clue what the whole Amadala and Senate stuff was about at that age. For a kids film, a Senate dispute about the taxation of trade routes was a bit dry of a topic.

I have to ask, SNIKT, what is your opinion of auteur Rian now?

I just want to hear you say it. :)

I blame both auteur Rian and the studio. Unacceptable. This whole thing is unacceptable.

And JJ can't even save it in IX because there's nothing left to save.

Franchise dead.

Hasn't he suffered enough already Haha ... Haven't we all :(

At this point I wish that George had never sold the rights to Disney. I could live without Rogue one if meant Luke hadn't been tarnished by this film.

Absolutely.

Well, he was so certain, so vocal about savior Rian, that a little jabbing is in order.

I think its more realistic to believe that auteurs can *******ize something as badly as "the suits".

I just got back from seeing this P.O.S. in the theater. I rate this the worst star wars movie so far. I am not excited for episode 9 after seeing this. Rian and Disney ****ed up big time on this movie.

Holy **** dude. :lol

Overreacting much? TPM killed the franchise 18 years ago.

Some of you guys really need to go back and watch Phantom Menace to realize how much worse this could have been.

change your avatar

:lol

I hope he keeps it, kinda goes with his whole theme.
