Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Ok, but as we have gone over dozens of times by now it isn't for just them regardless of original intention. No more than Harry Potter or Superheroes are. Some things just hit that magic spot and are appealing to everyone.

Hell, you have a Superman avatar. Wasn't he originally intended just for kids?

Plus, even if that was the truth, explain the Senate debates in Episode 1. Every word of that went right over my head when I first saw that movie.

Ok....where did all that come from? All I asked was didn't GL at one point state that the target for the OT was intended to be for kids?

Sorry, reflex. Alot of people on these threads have been making posts to the effect of "Look at all the fanboys crying over films meant for kids". Saw your post and took it the same way. I apologize.

Ok, I can't read the 100+ pages I missed, so I guess I just have to skip them...

I loved the movie despite some issues...

My nitpicks...

Leia in space
Puppet Yoda (why is it so hard to match the quality of a puppet made 37 years ago!?)
Cave/hole- felt like something was missing, like a point. Did I miss something?
Rey's Escape - this had to be left on the cutting room floor, because it just seemed so jarring for her to just suddenly show up on the Falcon, or is it just relly easy to walk in and out/steal a ship off the giant Star Destroyer? Maybe she called ÜBER?
Felt more like a long TV Episode, a really good one, but TV Ep. None the less.

Things I know others Will hate that I didn't...

Oh no, no Plageuis! So sad
Rey's not related to anybody! How dare they not copy Empire!
Snoke is dead! But, but, we complained constantly about him and now we cant anymore!
How dare they make a social commentary!!!!!! Rich people are awesome!!!!! Trump 4ever!!!!!!
They tried to make me like that Asian woman!
Luke didn't really fight! And he Died?! Noooooooooooooooooo!!! My childhood is being destroyed!

More later....

Next week is the one I'm curious about.

True. But with the holiday coming up - folks that avoid opening days/weeks will be going to theaters. I know I'm going with multiple family members then. "Everyone" - and these would be "general movie-goers" will go to Star Wars. Or Coco, maybe.

Yes, but its true for every Star Wars that opens for Disney, so it should be a wash. No doubt this will still deliver huge numbers... but I suspect a surprising drop for a Star Wars movie.

So how long does the events in TLJ take place? A couple of days? A week? I can't believe the first order is so lame that they can't stop a couple of ships from running away. And how did the first order come to power anyway? How does one amass an army that large and creat weapons that powerful without anyone knowing?

The game board is essentially empty. It was bad enough he in the First Awakens when the two factions status in the Galaxy wasn't made clear, but now they've completely and utterly blown the **** out of each other.

Not to mention the first line in the opening crawl is "the first order reigns". What are that reigning over? They only blew up the old government 2 days ago. Have they really set up a government and occupation on every planet since?

As far as I can tell the battle in this movie is all that there is to either side. I hate that none of these basics were ever made clear.

No worries. :duff

I do think SW is something that has come to appeal to a large variety of audiences and demographics though, even if the concept when ANH was released in '77 was initially intended to be for kids, so I do disagree with anyone who says they are now only meant to be for kids. I haven't seen TLJ yet myself to form an opinion on it as a whole, but based on obvious spoilers I've read, I do disagree with the decision to have Luke pass away in this one, and in the manner in which he did. It seems sort of anticlimactic to me for his character. Like he's there and then he's just suddenly, gone. Not even getting to see him in an actual lightsaber duel at least one more time.

That being said, I can see why he's sort of in a truncated role though in general, being that the focus of this trilogy isn't meant to be on him nor any of the OT cast. They seem to be intended to merely serve as pieces that help along the stories and arcs of the characters that this trilogy is intended to focus on. That part I can understand being that the OT can't be the main cast of SW forever; they had their trilogy, now this trilogy is intended to have a new focused group of characters. Just as I'm certain the next one will also and so on and so forth. This part is what I agreed with DarthAlias about.

However, I agree that doesn't mean they have to be mishandled either, or just written out or treated in such a way to simply get them out of the way so to speak, because they're "old guys". Like I said, I haven't seen the film, so I'll have to see just how "mishandled" Luke was as what people are claiming. I don't like the fact that he dies in this one, I feel it to be sort of anticlimactic for the character, but I'm not sure I would consider that fact alone that he was "mishandled".

Luke Skywalker - the greatest teacher ever....can make a novice into a Jedi master ready to teach others in 18 hours!!!!

Opening numbers has been updated by Variety as 220 now which is only 27 million below the 2nd most anticipated SW movie ever that’s pretty damn impressive.

But like Wor said 2nd weekend is always the most telling.

I already got my tickets for next weekend sorry Wor lol.

My sister is actually taking me tonight for our 2nd viewing.

I wonder who are they going to kill off in episode 9? Think Billy Dee will show up to sacrifice himself ? Both Luke and Han killed off in the same week. What are the odds?

I'm actually planning to see it again as I heard from many it gets better on the second viewing. :) There were some Awesome scenes in this movie
Hey! I suffered thru The Phantom Menace 3 times just to see that Darth Maul fight

Considering it picks up right where Force Awakens left off (Luke standing there with the lightsaber, Snoke ripping Kylo and Hux for the Starkiller's destruction and being bested by a girl, Leia and Co. retreating from D'Qar), it's got to be a couple of days, up to a week.

They haven't put much thought into any of this stuff.

I still thought it was weird how Poe was treating Maz like an old friend when she awkwardly tells them about the mysterious codebreaker when Maz was really Han and Chewie's friend/contact. That whole subplot seemed like one day and a draft of writing.

That hadn't even occurred to me but yeah wtf?
