That doesn't change anything though.

True-- except the possibility of lazy writing. The whole Finn/Rose side story sets up the need for a rebirth of the rebellion, the true reality of war that mostly remains unseen, and where the movies will head (broom boy looking heavenward). I also liked DJ... no Han there... "You blow them up this time, they blow you up next time." The machine.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Is there any explanation as to why the speeders were creating the red dust clouds on Crait? The Walkers knew where the main entrance door was, surely they have thermal imaging or could pinpoint via some type of GPS, seemed a pointless exercise.

I don’t think there was any strategic point to that, at all. That whole scene was meant for eye candy and nothing more.

The last four words of your comment pretty much encapsulates TLJ :lol

Isn't that what happened after he has his run-in with Luke?

He surely runs home to Snoke, says you were right. Snoke, like Palpatine, quickly names him Kylo Ren -- because its very clever -- and then Ren dashes back to school, tells the kids he's cool now and has a mask, so some lonely losers join him, and they then burn down the school. .

Wow, somehow you managed to make Kylo Ren even more pathetic.

So how long has he been with Snoke then? He still can't fight and never finished his training after how many years?

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I'm honestly not sure how anyone could like this film. I don't see what the people who say is great are seeing. Set aside whatever feeling you might have about the sad end of the OT characters, and this is one disjointed mess of a film.

Just a cool visual. The red dust was just under the white surface as shown just before in the trenches.

This guy gets it (and is apparently not on the Disney payroll).

I thought it was because the single skid(?) disturbed the dirt on the ground and caused the dust trail. If you remember the infantry guy who walked a few steps and looked like he was leaving bloody footprints on the ground - I think its a similar effect. As to why the ground is bright red right under regular dirt then I have no idea.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

True, but I was hoping they might have been some poor explanation.

It's because the actual ground/soil on Crait is red but there was a layer of salt over top. So the speeders are kicking up the red dirt just beneath the salt. The area is a salt flat.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

From this morning's box office report that is sourced by most major news outlets (mostly trumpeting TLJ's massive $220m opening weekend):

"However, there may be a small glitch in the Force as many are pointing to the RottenTomatoes audience score for Last Jedi, which is currently 56% vs. a 93% score from critics. It is the largest audience-to-critic divide for films in the Star Wars franchise on the site. Additionally, IMDb is showing a down tick in user ratings when compared to user ratings for Force Awakens (8.8/10) and Rogue One (8.3/10) on the Sunday following release with Last Jedi currently holding a 8/10 rating. Just how significant an effect this data has on the film may be difficult to assess..."

This is now indeed huge - and official.

And Metacritic is down to 4.9/10... and it'll only get worse.

I think some people need to take off the "Star Wars goggles" and stop defending it like they wrote it.

Same thing happened when PTM came out, and those "blind" sheep couldn't admit it was a steaming pile of ****, until years later.

Why do they "need" to do that? Because you didn't like it?

They don't "need" to do anything except form their own opinion about the film, just as you did.

Every moment of Finn on camera was useless when you think about it. He wants to only do what's best for him and Rey so he plans on leaving. Rose, some ship maintenance person, forces him to stay and then together they both figure out the Rebels are being tracked and how they can stop it. They talk to Maz, because communications on the ship seems to be working fine for long range apparently, and Maz, who teased a great story about how she acquired Luke's saber, was useless once again, only telling them to go to a casino to find someone who is teased as being someone with huge importance, only to discover he's nobody, and then leave there with someone else entirely. Ultimately they don't even disable the tracker and then escape beyond impossible odds.

It's disappointing how lazy the writing was on this. If they do plan on explaining everything in the future, then they are REALLY playing the long long game, and doing it poorly.

Glad he's an Asian Australian writing about the SJW approach. No one else would have been taken seriously.

Key line: As terrible as The Force Awakens was, it’s made retroactively worse in the knowledge that none of the mysteries it introduces actually matter

I agree that Finn was the weak spot (and the Maz BattleHolo was rather blah).

The "disjointed mess" pales into insignificance next to the ridiculous plot and even more ridiculous scenes. I felt like I was watching SW after taking LSD. I remember thinking several times..... Jesus!! Is this really happening??!

After seeing this, I have the same questions I did after TFA, WHo is Snoke, and who are Rey's parents?

Ben and Rey's connection really truly felt like they were setting it up as if they were brother sister. If they actually choose to never answer these questions and leaving it as is, then shame on them.

Zero gravity, yo. She didn’t fly. She just pulled the ship closer to her.:lol
Actually, it doesn’t make much sense that Yoda can’ fly, at least in short bursts. He can make ships fly after all. Listen, if you try to use reason and sense to anylize any of these movies they fall apart. It just depends on how much you are willing to suspend reality or even common sense.

Ok so while this ain’t a bad movie it’s weird. I just saw it and the spoilers I read confirmed my fears. I was entertained and I enjoyed it but snoke is wasted and so is Phasma. Finn and rose aren’t bad and rose is no jar jar like people kept saying. Rey is better in this movie but still way to overpowered . Kylo was having trouble with those red guys but rey didn’t? Ok.

The hell is up with code guy they got from jail? He was weird. Kylo is pretty cool but real whiny but I can deal with that. Anakin was the same . Some really cool shots in this movie. Some looked like they were ripped straight from an anime lol.
Poor Luke. While the send off was nice would it have killed them to include his green lightsaber and fight? Like really?
It’s not a bad movie but hey I love rots sooooooo yea.
