Who willl be the villain for part 9?????

At least the emperor lasted until the END of part 6.... at least...

Even if u didnt know much about him, he was there till the end pulling the strings, baiting luke, controlling vader...

That's the thing, I don't know how others feel about this but I never saw Kylo as the big powerful villain for this trilogy. At least not in this way. I expected a longer arc and then he'd reach the height of his power in IX but in the meantime it would be him and Snoke. Now I'm stuck with just him and that's so underwhelming.

Who is going to teach him so that Rey doesn't beat him easily? Snoke was supposed to complete his training (whatever that means for a Force user) but there wasn't enough time between TFA and TLJ.

Yes, and in order to grow closer to the force and become an actor of its will, you need training. Years of it.

Not according to Luke's progress in ANH. Remember Ben never told Luke "if you're ever in a situation where you need to hit an exhaust port two meters wide with proton torpedoes here's what you do, practice this for several years and you'll get it down." No he simply told Luke to let the Force flow through him and act on instinct. Kind of like what Maz told Rey.

The films (including TLJ) definitely suggest that there are all kinds of powers and skill that is acquired through regimented training and that it's easier to trust that the Force will do what you want after you've mastered certain disciplines but there are plenty of examples, old and new, of the Force and certain users circumventing such a thorough education (when dramatically appropriate of course.)

That's not true. I give some of you a hard time for being millennials but there's been quite a few times that you young ones have typed something that made me go "nice, good point." So don't fall in line with the "mass hysteria crowd" on this one, Clown. ;)

Luke, Rey, and Kylo all grew in the film, as did Poe.

And not giving Snoke a backstory is not lazy in a space opera that deals largely in archetypes. These films *can* get away with characters who are simply "evil ***hole in a chair" (ROTJ Emperor/Snoke), "evil ***hole on a slab" (Jabba), "evil ***hole with a gun" (ESB/ROTJ Fett), etc. Especially when they are anchored by more nuanced and layered villains like OT Vader and ST Kylo.

Remember in ESB Fett didn't even have a name! Nor did Palpatine in ROTJ.

So now you're comparing Palps to Snoke? Lmao.

Snoke was a joke. Palps wasn't.

Dude, I stand by my earlier statement. I don't believe you loved this movie. I think you're trying real hard to like it because you wanna care about IX.

Not according to Luke's progress in ANH.

Even by the beginning of ESB Luke had difficulty moving a Lightsaber on command.

Rey doesn't even know that these kinds of things are possible and she is doing it in TFA. And by the end of this movie she was moving what had to be hundreds of tins of rock. Even if they had some kind of scene setting up her learning what basic force powers were I would buy it more.

Luke already had that skill from being a lifelong pilot. He even points out in the movie how he makes similar shots with his t-16. Making the shot was not a completely new discipline for him. All he used the force for was calming his nerves and trusting himself.

Then what is even the point of a hero's journey if she already has all the skills she needs?

No I'm fine with my personal SW saga ending with Luke becoming one with the Force. If IX is good then that will just be gravy.

We don't know. Maybe they became the Praetorian guards. Luke referenced them though so TLJ did acknowledge their existence.

Not entirely! Luke mentioned that Ren left with some of his students and slaughtered the rest. But again, this didn't match the vision Rey had in TFA of the rain pouring down, so what was that all about!

The movie was horrible! Rian took a piss in our mouth's. I hope JJ can somehow fix this, but i doubt it.

This turnaround is amazing since you were so sure Snoke will be the most amazing villain ever before the movie came out.

You were so convinced!!!!

JJ had a plan for Rey, Luke, Snoke, The Force, etc. Johnson [and Kennedy for allowing him to] destroyed it.

JJ will probably try his best to repair the damage done. Sadly some of it is truly irreparable.

IX could end up being a 9/10. Just not a 10/10.

Well technically Maz' pep talk was supposed to double for Ben's Falcon pep talk to Luke so it did exist. Then Snoke in TLJ explained why Maz' pep talk worked much MUCH better than most due to the void of Light that the Force needed to fill.

If you didn't like the story or the characters or how things played out that's fine, my point is just that the alleged holes in the narrative are just as easy to fill as those from the OT if you want them to be filled. Hell it even closes some holes *from* the OT like the references to the Force being a divine power with a religion surrounding it even though often times characters act like it's simple magic from a Harry Potter film or something.

This is so funny so they do what they normally do with MArvel movies and now star wars fans are upset, really so its ok that marvel movies suffer from the same issues silly jokes, wasted side characters, plot point that are only introduced to advertise future movies and weak or undeveloped villains. All this happens with MArvel movies its what Disney does milk it and down it down to sell toys but because you fans put up with it they just apply the same thing to Star Wars and now you have a problem with it. HAHA

I haven't liked their Marvel movies since 2012. Which is why it really pains me that they are basically trying to turn SW into an MCU movie. Maybe its all part of their plan to have the SW characters join the MCU.

Poe was a fool and should be executed on sight..yet he was sent to tranpsort ship and both praised by Leia and pink poop head with bullsjt like “oh we all love this boy because of his foolish acts” :rotfl

This is madness!

Wait now JJ is the genius auteur at the center of all this and not just the fanboy hack who copied ANH? :lol

It's well documented that JJ had no idea why Luke was on that island. He just wanted him out of the picture so that he could focus on building the new characters. Johnson said that one of the first things we wrestled with in scripting TLJ was coming up with a plausible reason that Luke would recuse himself from the spreading conflict.

Adam Driver also said that it was nice to finally learn what his character was about in TLJ since JJ gave him very little subtext to work with in TFA.

Not really though. Nothing has been filled. All this talk of "light side voids" is just fan theories. At the end of the day these are still plot holes and they weren't well constructed narratives. So much of it was left to the audience to fill in major chunks of the plot.

The "holes" in the OT aren't really holes at all as it is set up pretty clearly that not everyone knows about the Force. This one actually creates a pretty big one in the fact that apparently force sensitive people can use powers with zero training, yet these random force users aren't everywhere.

Exactly!

Star Wars is filled with characters that have absolutely zero backstory!

Palpatine = nothing
Fett = nothing
Anakin/Vader = just a sentence or two

Until the prequels came along, somehow so many of you forget that.

How much training did Luke have on Dagobah?

While I agree Rey's training was far too short, it's nothing new in the SW universe.

By the standards so many of you are setting, you'd hate The OT as well.

Poe's plan with the bombers was sound. Only a fluke caused the disaster. I actually thought that was a really nice touch. Even the FO was like "aw crap, here come the script immune Rebels" when the bombers came out of hyperspace but then TLJ showed that even the good guys can be victims of absolutely awful bad luck.

i’m glad to see the movie is getting some defense in here.

after sleeping on it last night, i’ve come to the conclusion that I absolutely adore this flick, it’s seriously up there with Empire in my book.

Maybe Disney can release a different Blu-ray version.
In that film Luke won't milk an alien...draw his laser sword on his nephew or die while hiding.
Rose and Finn won't get screen time....and most importantly Mary Poppins won't be introduced into the SW world.
