How much training did Luke have on Dagobah?

While I agree Rey's training was far too short, it's nothing new in the SW universe.
100% more than Rey and Broom kid.

Something, anything would have been enough.

Maybe Disney can release a different Blu-ray version.
In that film Luke won't milk an alien...draw his laser sword on his nephew or die while hiding.
Rose and Finn won't get screen time....and most importantly Mary Poppins won't be introduced into the SW world.

The original cut was actually 3.5 hours long. They probably removed a lot of very good parts so that we could spend all that time with Finn and Rose.

Exactly!

Star Wars is filled with characters that have absolutely zero backstory!

Palpatine = nothing
Fett = nothing
Anakin/Vader = just a sentence or two

Until the prequels came along, somehow so many of you forget that.

How much training did Luke have on Dagobah?

Decades, apparently. ;)

And note that Yoda never once instructed him to turn on his lightsaber, yet people are fine with him engaging in a prolonged duel with Vader himself. Actually two duels, the second in which Luke won handily.

While I agree Rey's training was far too short, it's nothing new in the SW universe.

By the standards so many of you are setting, you'd hate The OT as well.

Pretty much. Which is fine if you *don't* like the OT. I mean we can all sit back and chuckle at the silliness of many OT scenes. But if you can forgive those then I don't see why the new films have to be arbitrarily held to a much more demanding standard.

i’m glad to see the movie is getting some defense in here.

after sleeping on it last night, i’ve come to the conclusion that I absolutely adore this flick, it’s seriously up there with Empire in my book.

FFS...talk about a **** poor attempt at wind up. Jog on buddy:wave

The lightsaber training was introduced by Ben, which Luke could have continued on his own using the helmet and ball.

Rushed training better than no training. Plus Vader was never trying to kill Luke...in ESB.

The evacuation transports from the Calamari cruiser - couldn't they have used the cruiser as cover from the Star Destroyers' bombardment?

I had the exact same conversation with many fans the past few days who also complained about TLJ plothole yet when I pointed out that it was explained in the movie, they will be denying it and saying that the explanation is not good enough when in fact it just flew over their head. I am glad TLJ is actually one of those movie that doesn't always spell things out for you but it is there when you look for it.

A conclusion I reached after about a week of this movie premier is that majority of the negativity surrounding this movie basically boils down to the fact that the movie did not match any of the fanfiction they have been building in their head.

And mind you most of these same fans are the same ones who are saying they are hoping for something more original than TFA.

I have come to realized that you can't just win with SW fans since everyone believe their own fanfiction is how the saga should be.

You're trying so hard :lol

Nah man I'm just referencing what is right up on the screen. :)

YAt least you are putting more effort on your posts than Johnson did when writing TLJ script. ;)

I actually think TLJ's script was pretty brilliant. Luke's lines about the hubris of the Jedi, Yoda's dialogue referencing that failure can be the best teacher (that's some pretty awesome meta **** right there, working both within the context of the story and also as a self-aware acknowledgement of the PT), and Snoke's commentary on Rey's powers. A *lot* was explained, atoned, and clarified with just a few short lines delivered with some pretty impressive acting, especially in a film like this.

In that regard TLJ was very OTish in how it explained a lot with a little.

Makes sense to do that right when they left. Actually, that's what I thought Vice Admiral Holdo was going to do when she first started turning the cruiser around. I like what happened better.

I'm not a nerd about movies...but this film made no sense and destroyed it's predecessors.
Not sure really what they were thinking. Disney has just got to cocky. WB would be sluaghtered for rubbish like this.

I think many of you should just give up on Star Wars, because no matter what they put out, you'll never be happy.

I have in a way. It's what allowed me to have a good time at the cinema. But ask me to accept it as a true continuation of the original trilogy and I say :lol no.

You clearly missed the subtext of the duel in ESB. Luke was unprepared to face Vader, who was toying with him the entire time and could have kicked his butt at any moment. It was only after Luke got overconfident and got a couple of lucky swings in that Vader decided to end it.

By the time of the second duel, Luke had clearly spent the years between ESB and ROTJ training, and had become more adept. But even then he wasn't amazing. He was just kind of all the Jedi had left at that point.

I'll keep my opinions of the movie aside but I can't believe how good Snoke looked!! Amazing...so real. Loved the eyes. BUT!!! When Yoda appeared he looked very cheesy, low budget with a puffy soft face? He did not look OT or PT. Also wonder if there was reshoots as Rey's face started to look a hint fatter!! Maybe she had to much green milk back on the island!

Yes, we can have fun with TLJ and IX because after TFA the Sequel Trilogy became instantly irrelevant to the OT.

Being irrelevant is one thing, but being a badly made parody is quite another.

Re: The Last Jedi

I've come to the conclusion that Star Wars fan will hate everything that isn't OT.

Well you're wrong. Loved Rogue One. Really liked TFA. I've come to the conclusion that people make silly assumptions when they see someone doesn't like what they do.
