Ah yes..

Guess I did not care because Portman is hot :lol :lol

lulz

Definitely agree on your point, but RO had it a whole lot easier than the ST does, given that it was operating inside the story universe of the OT, which had super-clear stakes and is well understood.

It's also easier to create better written characters in something more "real" that is essentially a WWII war mission movie than something that taps into the mythic journey where archetypes rule.

Also a great point.

Can anyone agree that a Star Wars Film to date hasn't and shouldn't be this divisive? I hated it personally, but I don't hate people who enjoyed.

I wish people would recognize that when a very large percentage of the people who watched it, and loathed it for its treatment of the Lore/Mythos, Characters, and Staples of the series that can't be good. You shouldn't revel in the fact that its getting this much hatred, at the least you should examine it and say to yourself why?

Well sorry to say but Kennedy/Disney are fully to blame here.

With the PT it was unanimous ALL SW fans hated them there was no politics involved it was all about GL raped my childhood it was unified hatred lol. .

With TLJ they went and alienated entire families that simply don’t like to be preached too or having their kids shown that all men are irrational directionless jerks.

If the US is comprised of 50% conservatives and 50% liberals then Disney lost all of those conservatives with this stunt of theirs then add the liberals who also hated it and Disney is in trouble and for what, for Holdo and Rose to shine when they already had Ackbar and Leia to shine.

I like TLJ but who cares what I like or don’t like i’m just simply pointing out that Disney shouldn’t be sloppy if they’re going to mess with SW.

Disney is the one pitting earth based ideologies against each other and opening the door for our prejudices to slip in for a movie that takes place in a galaxy far far away.

Again I like TLJ and i’m all for feminism and career advances in a protected environment for them as well as multi cultural representation BUT DON’T **** WITH SW! :lol

Now you made my porg sad.

We know that the empowerment of women was strong with this one.

The sea cow literally feeds into that. It was like an ancient fertility idol: the female life force ensuring the future of a tribe.

Is this what they thought it would take to bring balance to the force?

Trouble is that it's so obvious that the backlash was inevitable. You can't create equality by merely taking the opposite stance.

Did they forget that Leia was a strong woman in ANH, in spite of the film generally conforming to pre-WWII stereotypes?

There is always the problem in Star Wars that the resistance will end up replacing their enemy's authoritarian rule with their own version.

I wonder how much interrupted sleep that lactating sea cow triggered in fans.

Millions of fans tossing and turning as that nipple comes closer and closer as Luke turns, gulps and smiles.

Then the fans suddenly awaking screaming "Aunt Beruuuuu!"

They clearly forgot everything. I think they need to go full on Memento and tattoo everything about what makes star wars, star wars, all over Kathleen's body so she cannot forget. But she'd have to look in the mirror once in awhile....

Ooohh now I get why the sea cow was in the movie... they really did want to represent everyone

Maybe we should be thankful Kennedy decided to go with this:

Women suffered the oppression of the glass ceiling all these years, now KK's taking her revenge.

She's holding Rian's balls for him in her purse, and he won't get them back until he's satisfied her three more times.

I'm all for equality, whether it's race or gender, but this message is just wrong:

Just listen to old Obi-Wan: The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

The films are about the struggle for balance in a seemingly never ending war.

We can hope, maybe, that the resistance has learned lessons by the time Episode IX begins.

I agree that Leia was an exremely skilled independent woman and worthy heroine, she stood up to Tarkin and Vader, Fought off numerous troopers, Gave Han his **** right back, Tried to save Han, and choked Jabas fat ass. Aside from being rescued twice, she was full on wonder woman. Nobody they have presented can match.

I don't think SJW or politics was even close to blame for the film turning out the way it did as much as poor and uncharacteristic storylines, subplots, and character motivations/treatment but I will say all the woman they added were bargain brand to Leia.

:lol

The big question... will the lactating sea cow and Luke with bottle accessory be made by Hasbro?

Really, the 'divide' between critics and fans must be down to these aggregator websites. The movie has flaws. Most reviews acknowledge them. Some can see past those flaws, and some can't. But the aggregator websites have to turn a nuanced review into either a 'yes' or a 'no'. I suspect critics weren't expecting a great deal from a Star Wars movie and were not that invested, so for them, they could see past the flaws, and their reviews tended toward a 'yes'. I mean, Mark Kermode was impressed that the characters had arcs? That's a really low bar. We could talk about how well those 'arcs' interacted, but ...

Some in the audience are more invested, and they are going to think about the movie for longer than the time it takes to write a review, and in doing so the flaws might become a little bit more apparent and harder to see past. And so, even though they enjoyed aspects of the film, or like what it was trying to do, overall the review becomes a 'no'.

So we're seeing what looks like a big split, when really it is just 'movie has good bits and bad bits. For some the bad outbalances the good, and for some the good outbalances the bad.'

Yeah that's why it's at 54%, half liked it, half didn't. So it's pretty accurate. I personally never listen to critic reviews. Anyone can become one nowadays, it doesn't mean anything. The audience review is always more telling.

poor and uncharacteristic storylines, subplots, and character motivations/treatment

This bothered me way more than any social agenda.

But didn't the gender agenda form much of the storyline, subplots and character motivations/treatment?

I tried to ignore the implied messages on the first viewing, but during the second they stood out.

Poe does something incredibly brave and dangerous, but he get's publicly emasculated by he boss woman for his troubles.

He stages a coup, but all it takes is one strong woman to walk in and stun him.

There's no problem with the agenda per se, but there are ways of feeding it into a story with more subtlety and positive impact. Instead of putting out the fire they pour more petrol on instead. And that's dangerous because the fumes can ignite while you're still holding the petrol can, ergo a backlash.

So there's a rumor that Snoke had another apprentice.

:lol I saw this.. There's one in the outer rim apparently. Well.. I mean.. Kylo isn't seriously going to be the bad guy right? He got bested by a girl as Snoke put it one time and fought her to a standstill the second time after she only had three days of training VS his years under 2 masters... How are we supposed to fear him?

As for the social agenda, Jaws is right. If it wasn't poorly written no one would care. But who wants to spend more time with rose or holdo(had she lived)? We all wanted to spend more time with leia after ANH. Honestly I could've spent more time with Jyn as well even though she was kind of one note. Rey as well to an extent even being a gigantic Mary Sue, but not after TLJ..

Maybe we should be thankful Kennedy decided to go with this:

It's strange that in such an overt female empowerment movie, lactation would be so up-close and central (and I bet nobody even noticed the multi-boobage "lady" in the casino had many pairs, right?)

I am glad we got Rogue One which in my opinion was the last great Star Wars movie, no natural disaster can ever be as bad as this movie.
