I will have to go back and watch the "Making of JAWS" but I thought for sure it was that the shark destroyed the cage before the actor got in it..

Either way I am glad Hooper survived :)

Maybe it was Spielberg justifying after the fact. :dunno

What happened to your sig?

Ya know.. I look at RO and its very diverse cast and its all white bad guys and nobody complains..

Why not?? Because its a better movie with better written characters. You don;t feel like they just cast a girl in the lead to have a girl. Asian actors just to have Asian actors.. They were actors who fit the role and were part of a good story.

A film that is probably the most "anti war" message of the series in the way that it actually portrays the war. But nobody complains.. Why.. Better movie with better script. It did not beat you over the head with anti war speeches..

Now I am not a pro war guy mind you but I don;t like being preached at.. The opening 30 min of Saving Private Ryan is a better Anti War message then any Dirty Hippy can give ;) :lol :lol

What's kinda funny is that nowhere here - or elsewhere from what I've seen - is ANYONE talking about what TLJ set up storywise in terms of Ep IX; what story and character mysteries engaged people and where those plot threads will lead.

There's been lots of talk about the fan backlash, the supposed negative reactions to ESB (sorry, context so different in so many ways it's NO comparison whatsoever) even how middle films are supposed to have the lowest B.O.

But compare this week's discussions to those in the week following ESB's release... Luke/Vader, what becomes of Han, who is the "other"? (Fett?!) where does a brutalized Luke go from here? What the hell is Vader with that skull head? The devastating realization that you had to wait THREE YEARS to see it continue and get the answers.

All people are talking about this week is who loved it and hated it, and more importantly what that judgement says about them and their "group" - their political views, their gender, their age, their race.

And there is something deeply sad about that - that this is where, after all these decades, SW has ended up. An incredible, deep, mythic journey that ends up in bickering about identity and politics in the wake of a new release. But frankly, says a lot about the quality of the storytelling for what is supposed to be a serialized storyline.

Banned? Did I miss an explosive post? It's so hard to keep up. Can you self-ban?

What might be best is to temporarily ban those who were lukewarm on TLJ, and permanently ban those who hated it. It's the only way to bring objectivity to this thread and keep discussion on the right path.:dunno

This, totally. Great example.

Racist thing came up with RO too, it’s just one thing after the next when a new SW movie hits, in about 2 months it won’t matter, we’ll be onto the next big movie.

“If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can imagine”

That’ll serve both Luke and Snoke as they both surpassed Obi Wan in power. Where that leads in Ep 9 who knows at this point. We’ve heard ghost can be powerful, we’ve yet to witness the power they yield .

I seem to remember a bit of that before the film came out.. Not after. But I could be wrong..

Either way it was not as bad as this..

Hell I even complain about it with this film because IMO it comes across more like an agenda at the expense of story.. Not so with RO.. IMO anyways :)

They did that best in TDK.

Lucas and his hammer of wisdom.

I remember that in TDK

Where was it in ROTS? I don;t recall.

The whole Palpatine having the senate pass extra measures for greater protection at the expense of civil liberties to thunderous applause no less lol.

I have heard that from people who even love the film.. They are not all that excited for the next film..

TLJ just left nothing pressing for us to get to

In some ways its cool because it leaves a clean slate for the next film.

In other ways it leaves us not caring :lol

Definitely agree on your point, but RO had it a whole lot easier than the ST does, given that it was operating inside the story universe of the OT, which had super-clear stakes and is well understood.

It's also easier to create better written characters in something more "real" that is essentially a WWII war mission movie than something that taps into the mythic journey where archetypes rule.

Can anyone agree that a Star Wars Film to date hasn't and shouldn't be this divisive? I hated it personally, but I don't hate people who enjoyed.

I wish people would recognize that when a very large percentage of the people who watched it, and loathed it for its treatment of the Lore/Mythos, Characters, and Staples of the series that can't be good. You shouldn't revel in the fact that its getting this much hatred, at the least you should examine it and say to yourself why?
