Here's what Forbes says:

The good news is that Star Wars: The Last Jedi set another box office record. The bad news is that it’s not a “good” record but a pretty “bad” record. To wit, The Last Jedi topped the holiday box office with another $68.5m. That’s a sharp drop of 68.8%, which is not good for a big movie opening just before Christmas. But it’s about on par with Eragon, which also fell 68% after a $23m launch.

So, here’s the indisputably lousy news: Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi lost more money between its first and second weekends than any film ever, by a lot. Walt Disney’s The Last Jedi made $151 million less between its two weekends.

The best news all week...if I helped in any way even if its one movie ticket less sales I've done my duty to god, country and Star Wars

What did it make worldwide in its first week, $600M?

Now its up to $725M worldwide. So only $125 million in a whole week?

That barely-makes-a-billion bet is looking pretty good right now.

Nah it will definately pass 1B.

It will probably make exactly 1B less than TFA and that makes perfect sense it would perfectly match the 50/50 RT fan score lol.

That's what I expect too actually. But it won't be by much. I've said, in my gut, I think it will do 1.2B

Just hoping it doesn't break a billion because of the statement it would make.

Well if most of these people are on a percentage contract making ONE BILLION less is a big deal that's 1/2 of the other movie. Didn't RO make 1 billion and that didn't even have classic characters in it ( besides the last 2 min). Over all I think Ruin Johnsons stand alone trilogy might magically disappear when the dust settles. Its a shame the movie looked beautiful and the sound and special effects it just had a diarrhea of a story.

Nah sorry Wor it will definately be passing the coveted 1B mark Disney will make sure of that they already have contingency plans in place to ensure that happens but then it will also definately quickly lose momentum soon after it does.

I’m confused what to label it once it passes the 1B mark, a winner or loser for the SW franchise.

If I had to answer right now I would go with loser!

Maybe not a BIG loser but a loser nonetheless.

I hope that new trilogy disappears. And those special effects looked pretty bad to me and my dad, Watched it in standard Imax and some of the compositing shots looked very fake.

Yeah Ruin’s SW future is definately in jeopardy.

Visuals were definately not one of the problems this movie suffered from though.

Honestly I don’t even think it “ruined” SW that’s just too harsh the movie is definately profitable.

If GREED wasn’t an ugly human trait this movie would be considered quite successful actually.

If it makes under 1.4 it will be really bad. Rogue One made 1.05, a 300 million difference between a trilogy movie and Rogue One is crazy.

This movie had Leia, Luke, and all the new characters, and continues a story people have been waiting 2 years to learn more about.
Rogue One was just retelling an event from a crawl haha. A far superior movie though.

Yeah depending on how it performs, I won't be surprised if Ruin's next SW project just vanishes. And even if they keep it going, they definitely don't want that backlash to happen again as it really damages the brand, so he'll probably be far more supervised.

Over a billion a loser? Come on.

BvS was an $875m mega fail!

Yes, it's not just about making money with these types of movies. It's about making insane amounts of money while carrying the brand forward.

Passing 1 billion is simply not enough for TLJ because everybody assumes from the start it's going to. The question at first on movie shows was will it pass 1.7 or 1.8. Now we are wondering if it will even reach 1.5. Of course it will make money, that was never the issue, so in that regard it's not a loser, sure.

Im praying it doesnt reach a million :lol

I've been enjoying going back through this thread from the beginning to see who was right and who was wrong.

Some of us have the smug satisfaction cause we predicted this dumpster fire from the very start.

Others....did not.

Nothing is funnier than Snikt's increasingly bizarre and complex fanfic plots that he was convinced were real (even though he was making them up himself.) I've never watched a reaction video on youtube but I'd have watched the hell out of him seeing this movie for the first time.

If Disney were a Japanese company and TLJ performed as it has there were be at least 5 suicides at the company and they always make it look tragic but in reality it is a mandatory act.

Forget JL your entire family would be wiped out lol

Here us Americans have no honor we just go on to make the next Transformers movie. :lol

Yes I was very wrong myself.
Came to this thread a couple days before seeing the movie, super pumped about the reviews, etc...

Really didn't see this coming.

If this thread is any indication of the general turmoil out there in the real world over this movie, then I would say TLJ is a failure.

Star Wars isn't meant to be divisive.

This movie has given the PT a run for its money in terms of the audience disappointment with it. The amount of money something makes does not indicate satisfaction with the product -- just that it was intriguing enough to get butts in the seats. Your enjoyment is unnecessary.
