I think that Sideshow has cut back with the economy...there is no doubt. That doesn't mean that they are suffering though...just that they are being more selective and careful in what they release. And their QC has been amazing still...as Batty said in a previous post, I have yet to be disappointed with a Star Wars release.

And as for people complaining about rising costs...you better get used to it. With the rising wages in China, the high price of Oil, the economic turndown throughout the globe; we can kiss 80 dollar 12" figures goodbye. And part of me doesnt mind paying a bit more to know that the workers who are making my toys are earning a better living.

hey i love and respect sideshow..
i just wish they would do more to deal with the knockoff stuff coming from overseas. so new collectors don' get screwed over when they think there buying sideshow but there getting a knockoff piece..
nothing like buying a hulk p.f.#700 from someone in china and finding out someone already owns it.(this did not really happen just a use of words)

Yup, the days of items priced at that range are long over for the most part. Maybe if the economy gets better and the dollar improves we'll see a bit of a drop but probably not much.

Nope...not even with that. Within the next 2 years we are going to see an amazing increase in prices from everything to food, gas, clothes and paper. Within 10 years we are going to have a global food crisis as most of the populations won't be able to afford food.

Even aside from stuff I'm interested in, it just doesn't seem like there is much in the newsletter.

Oh I would not be shocked at all.

Can't say I feel the same at all.

for the quality and size of the Disney product that ssc has to offer and a retail price that's quite reasonable compared to alot of other products Disney has available. either ssc needs to do some different marketing and people just haven't seen or heard of these great releases.

if i wasn't neck deep into marvel i'd be all over that line for sure.:lecture

Is it the fact that most Disney stuff is geared towards kids? I'm not bashing any adult Disney collectors...just wondering if the fact that SS doesnt push Disney that much is that the fans are like 6-7 years old and won't buy 200 dollar statues. Again...not bashing or mocking anyone who collects Disney stuff.

Plenty of adults collect the Disney stuff you get in their stores or at the parks. Trust me its a big ass market.

Yeah..I know the cheaper stuff and middle of the road stuff sells at the Disney locations... I'm just wondering if those same people are buying the 300 dollar premium formats. Are the Disney collectors as hard core as the Star Wars collectors? I think that those are 2 different market segments. Many of us buy a $1000 Tie replica. Are many Disney fans going to fork over $1000 for a Disney collectable? If they are, then Sideshow is def missing a huge market...if not maybe SS are being a bit cautious. I'm prob completely wrong on this since I know nothing about Disney...just wondering out loud.

Oh, I don't think thats an issue for them to be honest. They are the type of collector that if its nice enough they will bite. Used to know a couple of folks like that around here.

The Disney collectors must be there because Enesco keeps putting out their pieces which are comparablely priced as similar pieces for other licenses.

True...like I said, I don't know much about the Disney line. Was trying to play devil's advocate to the original question regarding Disney and Sideshow.

There are definitely Disney fans willing to spend that kind of money. As Dave pointed out, the Enesco (WDCC) pieces are smaller than Sideshow pieces and are more expensive because they are porcelain.

Be hard for me to imagine folks wanting to carry a huge, 20+ pound box back with them from vacation along with all their other crap. But it probably would make some sense to have statues on display there with an internet hook-up or catalog for having an order shipped.

How many companies do you know that have gone backwards in pricing? Even if the economy hits like the 1920s where we've got a state of decadence I seriously doubt they'll suddenly go "Let's sell $80 figures instead of the $120 like we've been doing." The increases might cease and that is a big might because they might want to take advantage of folks having more money but the days of under $80 for a figure a long gone.

Disney Collectors are a different kind of hardcore because most of them are completists beyond belief. Someone brought up Enesco but there are a ton of high priced products that bear the Disney name. Disney oversaturates which is part of the problem and SSC has to prove to those collectors that their pieces are different than the Big Figs or different than the WDCC statues. We know they are but the Disneyana folks do not. Which by the way Disneyana conventions are nuts, people trading and buying like nobody's business. A lady I used to work with used to frequent them and showed me shots at how packed they were. She even bought a Maleficient as the Dragon WDCC piece for $1000 without blinking an eye.

The market is there its just that SSC hasn't gotten their legs yet.

I know that you can buy things in the park and have it delivered to your hotel room so that you don't have to carry it around all day. The extra step of shipping it home for you doesn't strike me as inconceivable.

What does seem unlikely is that they'd go to the trouble of making shelf space available for something that only has a couple thousand units to sell through.
