There was novelty in this one?

Well, the marketing only showed glimpses of him. The poster was great, and they kind of hide his face. His voice, alternate forms, and overall performance weren't given away during the marketing either. And the movie doesn't focus too much on him. Like a lot of you said, he doesn't talk much in the film, which is something they can do in the sequel.

For me one of the creepiest scene was penny as the picture lady sucking on that kids face in the sewer but it never really went anywhere because wimpy pennywise goes running away again lol.

I don’t know I guess the movie is still worth a theatrical viewing.

Just how Crows likes them.

I never said such thing sir. Stop lying. :monkey4

This movie wil not have the same repeat viewing longevity that the Exorcist, Halloween 1, F13th 1, The Thing, F13th 4, Fright Night 1, Nightmare 1, Day of the Dead and American Werewolf in London benefit from.

Sorry Pennywise.

Same as jaws and ALIEN, friday the 13th 2, 3 and 4.

Extremely small screen time for the monsters, easily defeated at the end, etc

This is actually very very very close to halloween 1 as a matter of a fact...
Same kind of plot, same pacing, same screentime for villain, same suspense

Thats just nostalgia talking.
Those jazz hands the alien does is absolutely ridiculous.

If this movie came out in the 80s without cgi it would be seen as an absolute classic.

How was pennywise weak? Dude got beat up and shrugged it off . He feeds off fear so he plays with his food. He got stabbed multiple times and shrugged it off. He only ran away cause he had no more control. The point of the first half is him losing his grip on the town. The second part is him getting revenge for what they did since they are the only ones that stood up to him.

I'm surprised at the nostalgia value the miniseries has for so many. Considering how much better the movie is and the amazing reception I'd say it will have a healthy post- release life.

Saying he's weak feels like a weird lens to look at him through. He's a child predator facing a group of kids with a weird cosmic Voltron strenggh against him.

Plus he does eat a lot of kids even if it's mostly exposition. Not like he's going through the movie slipping on bananna peels like Krennic.

It's not nostalgia for the miniseries, as a kid I didn't like Stephen King, and still today, I'm not a fan, only like a handful of his stories, and the miniseries was just meh for me, I think I only started appreciating it past my 20's.

The miniseries is just objectively better.

I don't know if it's the lack decent mainstream horror that's got people so marveled by a decent, not bad, far from great, horror movie.

You like Grace.

Very true. Freddy Kruger is another bum villain that isn't scary at all and in the end he's running around and getting beat up by a girl like a punk...

True. A lot of the superhero movies today too. They would blow people's minds back in the 80's and 90's, when you consider Batman 89 was the best thing that era had to offer. Also, 99% of the 80's horror movies are garbage, but they're entertaining, and not scary at all. They're just fun vehicles for the villains to kill kids and say one liners.

I'm not sure if it's what Jye meant but I suppose showing more of his successful kills rather than talking about them or implying them could have made hime more intimidating. For me the Georgie attack set the tone and stuck with me but I'm also walking in with the book in my head so that may inform me too much.

The new film is highly overrated, but the original sucks.

Jye should watch the nostalgia critics review on IT 1990. Pennywise talks more than he attacks. It's funny how he just sorta mocks the kids and goes away .
