Excellent pics as always, Jeremy. I'm going to go ahead and say we should appoint you our official Dinosauria Freaks photographer. :lol

Would that I could take some pictures as well. Not with 8 inches of snow on the ground though. Oy.

Thanks Scar. You can always count on me for pics.:D

With such amazing statues, it's hard not to get amazing shots out of these guys.

I've just copied over most of the great piccies and reviews of this piece to the Review Section, so go check 'em out altogether:

Thanks, Shell! Glad you're pleased with the Styrac! :rock :peace

Thanks, Scot. We decided to go with Scar's review and Jeremy's photos for the Styracosaurus maquette, so I don't have anything else to offer at the moment. Here's the published review:

Awesome, Dan. Jeremy's pics are sterling. Excellent placement of them throughout the review! :chew

My place had a slight frosting for a few hours, nothing more. I didn't think the snowfall would be all that heavy in... Isla Nublar.

Nature has its surprises. :lol

Damn global warming.

Oh yes, those poor X-Plus Styracs found a useful position within the herd, after all. :lol I have the Albertosaurus myself, but I get the feeling I should have gone with the Styracosaurs. They look significantly.. better.

Would it work to use the Alberto in a scene ? Maybe as a juvenile or just young making a pass at our sentry ?

No, the Alberto wouldn't work because he's just awful. You'd need to keep him poorly lit, and far from the camera. LoL.

And why this species is always given a grey coloration, I'll never know.

Well, even though the X-Plus Albertosaurus looks kind of anorexic (same thing with the Styracosaurus), I really feel like kicking myself in the teeth for losing the opportunity of purchasing the Albertosaurus for less than 8 bucks....

Believe it or not I actually like this. :lol For a toy it's not bad. And it's true that for some odd reason Albertosaurus does seem to be prevailingly colored grey or tan. Funny.

That's the most flattering shot I could find of it, actually. There are molding issues with it that prevent both feet from fitting on the base pegs, and the right flank looks caved-in. Some say he's an anorexic Rex, but to me, he looks like dino-roadkill.

I'm sure the original Japanese sculpt was a sight to be hold, though.

Perhaps that's just a very good picture of it, then. A shame the final piece didn't turn out well.

You can warm the vinyl and fix those problems easily..I really like mine, considering the master dino sculptor's that worked on them and the fact these along with the two by Sega may be the only examples we actually able t o get..I'm keeping mine. ;)

A member posted over at DTF that knew a person on another forum that had actually seen the Spino maquette by McVey he said and I quote : "I've seen McVey's completed critter. Nothing currently out there comes close."

Sounds quite interesting.. :D

That's highly subjective, though. Every individual has his or her own preference as to what's preferential. My favorite piece is the T.rex maquette not out of vibrance or any individual aesthetic, but for the way the sculpt and paint application perfectly encapsulate the story - even without the supplementary backstory one can mentally envisage what this creature's life has been like, filling in the finer details for oneself. Also, my preference is for the dynamism of the dioramas, so my favorite being the T.rex maquette certainly says something. :D

Yeah, it's all a matter of perspective. In fact, I bet I will have absolutely no desire to own the Sideshow Spinosaurus when I first see it.

:rotfl

You see what I mean, though, yes? People's favorite statues are likely to be their favorite dinosaur and the individual choices there are thankfully quite variant; variant enough that we have a whole line of collectibles based on them. :D

I'm looking forward to it a great deal. Not expecting it to be preferential to either of the T.rex pieces for me, but possibly on par with Carno and Styrac. I hope the jaws are agape. The spinosaurids had such gnarly jaws, seeing them fully extended would be awesome. With some good color displays on crest and flanks, it has a lot of awesome potential.

I wanna see some more herbivores. I've always thought they were cooler and more diverse than the carnivores. Carnivores more or less all look the same to me: Two legs, sharp teeth, short arms.

Yeah, I hope we see more of the well-defined patterns in the paintjob, just like the Carnotaurus had. All this spray-paint seems to make things look a bit dull.
