I don't know what these acronyms are. How much was the sword? I bet it was pricey, being a franchise item and whatnot.

UC = United Cutlery

SSW = Sideshow Weta

The sword would have been pricey, but since I'm in the store all the time they knocked 50% off. :rock

Indeed we do. When we reference the same thing so very often, it just makes sense that we're going to get lazier and lazier to the point where we have a list of hundreds. :lol

They gave you half-off just for being around all the time? Awesome. I need to try that out sometime.

I give them a looooot of business, and I had been looking at the sword for a couple of years. I collect a good deal of weapons so they know I'm going to continue to be a good customer and they'll easily cover that difference with me at some point, :lol

Collect weapons, you? A fan of theropods and turkey slaughter? Who'd have thunkit?

I'm more of a pacifist, myself. This Styracosaurus will probably be the single most dangerous object I own. LoL.

I've always wondered, are those swords actually sharp? I feel stupid just asking the question. :lol

I have a few replica blades and they are sharp pointed only, others have blades but aren't battle-ready really. Some you can't even sharpen. Most wouldn't stand up long in an actual fight..those are the expensive pieces if your looking for art and function. I have three diff sizes and styles of machete, they are durable and functional but not very nice looking.

:lol Nah, I don't need sharp swords, I was just always curious. Although if I had one and someone broke in to the house I wouldn't be opposed to charging the burglar with one.

Even most of the really durable German blades you'd have to have sharpened in order for them to do any damage, since when most retail only the tip has any real bite. It's a quick and easy fix with the right tools. Another important thing to keep in mind is that most home intruders won't have a blade to counter with, so an art deco piece works just fine in a pinch. :D

I have an Indian Gurkha Khukri wedged just behind the doorframe in the event that I'm forced to hold the door between myself and in intruder. Suddenly allow the door to give way, they stumble in, and you go for the carotid. Remember, they have 37 seconds or less to stop bleeding from the carotid artery, and in most cases the sudden loss of blood pressure to the brain will cause them to black out straight away. :chew I've lost track of how many weapons I have on display and cached away in various locations. When I moved a chair from my bedroom to make room for a bookshelf a few weeks ago, I exhumed 9 different blades from within assorted layers of cushions. Had to find all new places to store them, which was a right pain in the ass. I like to have a blade within reach at any given location in the house; that's real home security if you know how to use them.:lol

I can just see a burglar breaking into your house when you aren't home and rummaging around and seeing all those blades. "Who the ???? is this guy?" "I don't know, but let's get the ???? outta here."

So many hidden weapons...

Scar = Dwight? :google

My dad noticed my swords and such one year and now he's latched on the idea and every time I get a gift from him it's a new blade of some sort...I have them EVERYWHERE... heh heh We ought to take turns checking out each others houses Scar..just see how many we can find and compare notes..lol

Where's the best place to strike the carotid ? I know I can almost severe a deer's head with one strike from my medium ( standard )machete ( I butcher a lot for the dogs here ) ...I figure that would about take care of any intruder.. ;)

You'd be surprised how often I've gotten that comparison. :lol

Pressure anywhere along the carotid should be about the same, though I find using the jawline as a reference provides a fine reference. It's like a dotted line below which you can gauge your strike. Sounds like our homes are similarly outfitted; always good information to have for when the apocalypse swings around - fingers crossed! :lol I train students in Arnis, Kali, and Escrima, so we could raise a sound army when the day comes. :D
