Honestly. While I think marketing was a huge part of it and the pandemic rising a bit again I think more people will choose to watch it at home rather than to go to a movie and pay to watch something. It's easier to just watch things from home than being in a theater. You 're in your own space and comfortable. I bet the movie had lots of streams.

I love kong and godzilla but when that came out on hbo max I rather watched it at home. Also lets be completely honest. This year sucked for movies. We only had a few good hits here and there and the only outings from the Mcu are Z list characters or boring characters like Shang chi and Black widow.

The only way your gonna get my *** in a movie theater seat again is if tobey maguire and Andrew garfield share the same damn screen with tom holland in pretty much what could be the biggest spiderman movie of all time. If not then i'll be waiting for The batman or Sonic 2
Most films will 'bomb' over the next year or so (compared to past box office numbers).

Bond and Dune are both going to bomb this year - doesn't make them bad films.

Covid just accelerated the way people want to watch films. The days of the $1 billion box office film are over (short term anyway).

It's true!

- This film is more of a comedy, and the majority of the humour doesn't land in spite of it. **** jokes aren't that funny. The only two standout funny moments were the village slaughter and Weasel dying in the beginning. Next to no laughter came out of the theater I was watching it in.
- Harley's sub-plot has no weight or purpose; could have been cut out and the film wouldn't have fared worse for it, it has no bearing on the story at all.
- Harley since BoP is aimless, she has no agency and is a one-quip is this supposed to be funny? machine
- Rick Flagg is now a joke, since when is he on the side of the criminals, his character is a complete 180 from SS
- Peacemaker is written and acted as if he's comedy gold, it was pretty on the nose humour for what it was
- The emotional weight of the film resting on Polka-dot man and Ratcatcher should have been amped up to give the film some more heft

The trailers didn't grab me to be honest, the humour from them gave me a bad feeling of if I was going to enjoy it or not so I went in hoping I would but I left feeling the same way after seeing those trailers. Gunn's other works are much, much stronger.

So the film bombed. Hehe.

No stars...movie stars, I mean
No Joker
Indris Elba? :lol
Crappy marketing campaign
No villain to get people hyped
d i c k jokes :cautious:

So much can be learned from this film.

The Batman better learn.

All the legit stars are getting old. Tiktok'ers and screaming faux activists don't qualify as stars.

That’s right I said it. I’ll say it again . Sonic 2 will get me in theaters. If your a child of the 90s and a sonic fan like me you e been waiting decades to see knuckles on the big screen. You should know me by now lol
I enjoyed Sonic. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I'm excited to see what they do with Tails and Knuckles.

SS gets trashed, makes near $800 mil. TSS gets praised, yet bombs at the Box Office badly and supposedly on HBO MAX. Don't get that one. Can't say Covid as BW made a big splash in the first week in theaters. I think the GA seen this and said no, but the comic fans got out to see it. Still a DC fail.

Snyder fans are requesting the Ayer cut lol

I'd like to see it. Not sure how much it would change, I would assume the graphics titles and more Joker. I don't even think the cut Joker scenes were included in the bluray since Leto is still pissed about it. I still feel like both movies went the same narrative pathway - non-linear story going back to character's pasts, off-shoot Joker stuff/Harley w president, the twist - save Waller/Starro U.S. govt project, both take on out of their league big bad.

Good doesn't necessarily mean financially successful *cough*FastandtheFuriousTransformers*cough*. I think WB pivoting away from Ayer, despite the commercial success of that movie, is an indication of how important branding is for long-term strategizing with films. The lesson they could have learned there was, "studio interference works!" but WB seems to have gone the other direction, as Gunn himself mentioned when comparing the process of working with DC vs. Marvel in terms of the restrictions placed on him.

I hope this movie is actually more successful than the initial data suggests. Would hate to see WB revert to making less interesting, less creator-driven films. Best case scenario is that Marvel can continue doing what it does well--good movies all overseeing by Feige--while DC can take more gambles, and have missteps like WW84 or the Snyder movies, but also potentially great films like Nolan's Batman movies or, arguably, this Suicide Squad film. Doom Patrol has to be the greatest live action comic show of all time, but Teen Titans is so generic and pitiful that I couldn't get through two episodes. Marvel's Disney Plus shows are all. . .good.

I thought the Sonic movie was surprisingly good for what it was. I had no expectations going in, and thought it was fun. My daughter just watched it again the other day and is really excited to see Tails in the sequel.

There has to be financial success though. Why make any of these without making money? I don't understand the thinking behind the scenes. If something is making money for you, just not enough to what you expected, why stop or completely change the direction with a sequel? Maybe more people actually like the movie than what is being presented by media/control groups/etc. Transformers 3 was an awful movie. But there was 2 more made and a spinoff. You would think a business would go where the money is, not just what people say. Just cause you think a movie with Batman and Superman should make over 1 billion (it probably should) doesn't mean to gut the next movie, already filming, which then lead to less money.

This film was awesome but no Means a failure, welcome to the new normal, the days of $200 million opening weekends are just plain over and get over it, time to stop measuring it that as a meaning for success to be honest.

I just don't get the love for this film. The star fish was just silly, very much a Spy Kids type of villian. If the star fish had been some other monster, even if it did the mind control the same way, I think I could've bought the movie a bit more. Watching a giant star fish walk around was just "meh" to me. Bloodsport was the only interesting character to me, other than a bit of Ratcatcher and that wore thin very quick. Harley is sort of played out at this point, although Robbie definitely owns that character. No hate toward those who dig this, just not my thing...

Black Widow set the bar with $80 mil opening weekend. $140 if you take the D+ premiere number. $26 mil is a poor performance with its similar budget and who knows if we will ever see HBO MAX numbers (estimated around 2.8 mil viewers, 26% down from Mortal Kombat).

I was looking at Matticus' sig -- King Shark being tossed into the collapsing building -- and if I saw that 20 years ago I would have been mesmerized. Now... a shot like that is chicken fodder. Nothing exciting. All your mind does is register that "KS got tossed." It's a shame because the work that went into that moment is probably greater than the excitement it generated.

Over a decade of the MCU and things like Transformers have just dulled the senses to anything being epic anymore. Rubber people and no sense of danger certainly doesn't help. I'm not sure what I would have to see on screen to get the same rush of adrenaline that I once got from much simpler films.
