Just to chime in...the intention of the hand in question was not to be a salute (since her gesture is not being done with an official salute hand/arm) but more of a gesture of a 'hiya' or 'Seeya'. The concern about it being taken as a salute gesture has been heard though and it's currently being evaluated and looked at for modification to make it look less salute like.

And before anyone asks...I do not know if the portrait will be changed. I've only been made aware of salute-gate 2015.

I guess I don't see, in the way that it was done, how you could see it as anything other than a salute. Even if not the intention. I think hand off of the forehead, maybe but directly on it...no.

So now we wait to hear on HS. Hopefully there will be an HS gate 2015, too.

I was dying at this.

Not for the first time, I wonder what is wrong with some of you. She looks like a college aged Supergirl in this headsculpt, and the lighting throws an odd shadow accross her hairline in most photos which is extending her forhead a bit. I really don't think it is as bad as is being made out. She certainly doesn't look as old as is being portrayed on the boards.

Also, they may not have gotten licensor approval in time to show an alternate head at SDCC. We still don't know when anything shown is coming up for PO. I mean, apparantly the MOTU stuff has alternate HS, but we never got a glimpse of those either.

I agree. I see a college aged Supergirl. People making her out to be in her mid 40s is just absurd. This is still a very beautifully sculpted face IMO. Maybe it's just not the teenybopper many people wanted, but she's still a beauty.

I can see what they were trying to go for, but I think they made the hand too rigid and people are misinterpreting it as a military salute but it was really meant for a "almost how cowboys tip their hat" kind of gesture. A nod to the crowd so to speak.

Yea the hand definitely reads as a salute...no debate on that. I think they should have relaxed her hand if she was just trying to block the sun but that would have looked pretty dumb. I think the head sculpt is well done but just doesn't fit her character. They might have just gone too realistic looking. I would love to see Mark's rendition because he does realistic but with a little style added.

I really hope SS takes some of the feedback. Im sure they will just try to tweak the hand but I wish they would just revisit the whole piece. I was thinking a punching hand like she busting through the clowds but then I took time to look at the base and was like wtf. Rocks. She is in a kind of floating airy pose. They should use some of that spiderman popcorn and make it clouds.

Then I took time to look at the other arm and while it's fine I cant say I like that back hand. Looks like she is about to grab her own ...

Anyway, if they insist on keeping the sculpt I think they should redo both arms and hands to get it right and keep the flow. If they only do one arm it could affect something else

If the hand were turned more outward I think it would give more of an impression of a hi or seeya or blocking out the sun.

I wouldn't mind her left hand on her hip or out at her side a bit like her right arm. Anything has to be better than what she's doing now.

well hopefully from alex's response, it means ss might be considering making some form of alteration to this. fingers crossed.
