Luke VS Frodo ended up being a closer race than expected due to an upsurge in LOTR votes throughout the second half of the week, but Luke was still the winner. So we now have a tie score between the sagas--two points each for LOTR and Star Wars in our poll marathon. This week, one of the two will pull into the lead. (Remember, it's not who would win in a fight--just which one is your favorite character between the two.) So here we go with round 5 of 15:

When the higher ranking villain doesn’t want to venture into the field, he sends his powerful henchman to do his dirty work. Largely silent, this killing machine lets his skills in battle speak for themselves--his painted face intimidating his opponents and adding to his frightening appearance. In a climactic battle at the end of film one, the seemingly outmatched hero beats the odds and slices this fearsome villain in two, but only after we witness a memorable stab through the chest. Following the showdown, the hero rushes to the side of a fallen comrade--who dies in his arms.

Hmm, we've got two visually interesting, one-dimensional villains. I guess I'll go with Maul since he's got the cooler weapon.

Maul......I wouldnt be interested in reading something in an expended universe about Lurtz, but I would about Maul...And Tom,I think your quote is really good..it fits perfectly for both character...great match.

Very good match-up, but I have to go with Maul. He's not a fave of mine, but I think in terms of style and coolness he beats our Lurtz petty easily.

LURTZ!!!!

No Jedi mind trick will work on him. He can butcher up Maul in more than halves :devil

lurtz all the way he had a sword in him and pulled the person holding the sword closer....badass

Maul. He was just an animal. His pacing when the eletric barriers blocked him and Qui-Gon just proves it. Lurtz was a mindless Orc that technically never even existed in the books. Maul was a weapon. Lurtz only used them... poorly.

Lurtz may be badass and pretty cool villian visually... but I have to vote Maul. He was an icon before you even knew his name or heard a single word. The paint and those eyes sold the character instantly, burning it into your mind. We had another version of Sith evil to understand them by.... Even if he was quiet and let his Saber do the talking, and EVEN though he went out a little lamely.... He's still the man in my eyes... Great villian.

Maul all the way!!:maul :maul :maul

This is the best 1st qoute I have ever read :devil :rock

Maul definitely, and here's why:

Lurtz we saw, from birth to death, in the span of 1 film.
That's it - he has no other back story, history, or anything
else that can really be added to his story. Very finite.

Maul on the other hand, has a history. An entire life of
stories waiting to be told in the expanded universe, that
I'd love to know more about. What was his childhood?
Where did he come from? How did he become a Sith
apprentice? Etc............

All that, plus Maul would hand Lurtz's @$$ to him in a millisecond.

:maul :maul :maul :maul :maul :maul :maul :maul

Maul wins for me - no contest.
(I still love my Lurtz PF though - no doubt about it)

I voted for Maul. He had a mysterious air about him, looked cool, a sweet ride and one hell of a weapon. Unfortunately he had no real substance. But I think if he hadn't been killed off, instead of a footnote, he would have been a great character in the SW Universe.

Lurtz, on the other hand, was a giant brute and that was about it.

I was wavering about this one a little but I think I have to agree with you and Batty.

Possibly the easiest choice for me so far.

Lurtz is a very cool looking character, but Maul is the coolest looking character.

Sure Lurtz took on Aragorn but got his ass handed to him once it came to swords. Maul took on a Jedi Master and his apprentice (who was very near knighthood) and more than handled his own.

I love Lurtz, and Tuesday I'm sure to love him even more, but Maul is quite possibly the coolest visually designed character of all time.

I voted for Maul. Realistically I dont see what Lurtz could do to get around Mauls double bladed sabers.

Are we voting here based on which movie we love more, or which guy would genuinely kick the others ass?

Neither, you're voting on which character you like more. It has nothing to do with who would win in a fight. But I'm sure whichever saga you like more will sway more than a few votes.
