Ok guys, here's a fun little tid bit of info for anyone who thinks vinyl will produce a better looking final product than polystone. Someone I know e-mailed Sideshow about Swamp Thing and got the following reply. They gave me permission to re-post it. I have bolded my favourite part. The same factory that made the Alien Internecivus Raptus is the one that is making Swamp Thing.

Anyone who is on the fence about Swamp Thing, I encourage you to find somewhere to see the Internecivus Raptus in person. I'm a huge Alien/Predator collector, but I would never buy the Internecivus Raptus for ANY amount of money. It looks like a big piece of shiny plastic. The fact that Sideshow saw the production on that piece and decided to have any more products made there leaves me scratching my head. But at the same time, they basically say why. It was because of "The limited amount of product breaks". Even though it was poorly received, they saved money on the Internecivus Raptus because they were plastic and didn't break.

If you can find a way to see/or have seen the Internecivus Raptus in person and think it looks good, then you will most likely be happy with Swamp Thing since they are using the same factory and process. I'm not going to mince words. I thought it looked like a $400 plastic toy.

For those of you who still want him, I genuinely hope hope Swamp Thing comes out looking better than the Internecivus Raptus did. Perhaps since Swamp Thing is meant to look wet, the plastic shine won't be so noticeable.

This is pretty much how I feel. Sideshow has been repeatedly saying that vinyl is more expensive, but it doesn't matter if it LOOKS cheaper. I honestly don't care if vinyl costs 10 times as much as polystone if it looks cheaper on my shelf. I don't care about weight either, since materials can be high quality material and weigh almost nothing such as fibreglass. I sold my Wonder Woman PF because I couldn't get over how cheap the plastic shield and accessories on the base looked. It wasn't about how much those parts cost to make or how much they weighed. They simply looked cheap.

One last thing. Sideshow has also repeatedly said that polystone can't capture the detail, but I took a few screenshots of a Swamp Thing being pulled from a silicone mould in the "inside look video". A silicone mould means this cast is made of polystone, and the detail looks pretty damn good to me.

100% accurate Rebecca - that post from Sideshow is spin spin spin (with a side of BS).

or maybe you should just let the people that are actually interested in Swamp Thing enjoy the thread instead of filtering through your mess :dunno

A post like yours 'may' have been useful in the Prime 1 1/2 Joker thread as for awhile that was hit by the same critiques again and again by the same posters on the facepaint etc non stop for weeks if not months where I don't believe there were any posts from moderators moderating.

This I believe has only been going on for a few days, and from more then a couple of posters.

How about you try reasoning why we are incorrect in our observations?

That would be better than snippy little posts deliberately designed to provoke a reaction.

You have been very helpful to me in the past on the poster threads . . . a little arrogant and cold perhaps . . . but helpful.

It's a genuine shame you decided to behave like this. No idea what's going on in your life - but each to their own.

Nice try on the deflect tho...

What's the point of going on about something you're not even buying

To be fair to him, this has very real implications regarding other licenses also. If this is to become common place, it is bad news for us all. This thread and the Wolf Predator LSB threads just happen to be the hubs for the topic currently for obvious reasons. Carry on enjoying though of course, do you not mind the plastic? Genuine question.

I don't know if it has been brought up but there is also some slight shrinkage involved when a statue is cast in vinyl. Won't matter much if all the prod pieces are in vinyl and we have nothing to compare to.

Anyway, this is all I see when I look at this statue:

But you said basically the same thing about the Wolf LSB - then ordered it - and then cancelled once you found out it was plastic.

Could be the reason they used PVC is that it captures details from the original sculpt better than Polystone As collectors we don't want our statues and busts made out of plastic.

You not bothered about the plastic this time?

Why does it matter to you about it being hand sculpted vs. digitally sculpted? (sincere question)

Again, I agree. And as long as things are kept civil, I personally would like the discussion to continue.

My viewpoint- The Wolf Pred was a HUGE disappointment. They were NOT clear what parts would be made from what (but on this they are at least upfront). And the product we received was underwhelming on a GOOD day. They will be stuck with trying to get rid of them just as they have been with the Alien. SS seems to be embracing full vinyl statues and it's clearly the direction they are headed from now on which is curious because clearly collectors are not on board. How can I say this? Well, read the threads of those statues, and this one. "But that is just a handful of whiny collectors" you say, and not the VAST majority. Really? Then why have these not sold out? We know why, and that's because what they are made from and the execution quality is poor. So I find it curious the SS remains steadfast in making more statues from materials the bulk of us do not want. They can't use the "quality of detail" excuse for their use of vinyl because we see examples of well executed poly all the time, and we can directly compare Prime 1 Swampy to the SS vinyl one. And on top of that, SS has AMAZING detail in the base of Swampy, and that isn't made from vinyl, so that argument is completely invalid.

Again though, I am a buyer for this Swampy. And while it may unfortunately give them an additional sale of a vinyl pop figure, I love Swampy and I don't think I will see a chance to get him again w/o paying twice as much from Prime 1. I am going into this knowing I am over-paying, and that it will look like a hot mess and need a full re-paint. But after spending $1K, I will have a well sculpted and painted Swampy, the likes of which I may never get to see again.

Wasn't planning on getting this ...but I'm still curious to see in-hand pics just to see how the "plastic" stands up to scrutiny.

No not to me nor what it is made out of . It wasn't until the reviews came in that the wolf Pred bust was really bad. The paint job ... what got me is how the dreds were assembled..... crappy job ... that is what it killed if for me... still a great sculpt Wasn't going to order Swamp Thing but that sculpt amazing.... besides it's going to be on a shelf or behind glass anyway .... also used points and flex ... I want to see this in hand before any snap judgements are made
