I hope Takara can release something tha makes me wanna drop $400... but I'm really finding that hard to imagine.

A huge shame that Hot Toys won't be doing Indy and it means the only chance of a decent 1/6 Indy lies with Takara, unless Enterbay can get the OK to release Arnie Kim's.

Wow

We have BCM77, the never cut SS any slack and slams the hell out of em on the medikids board, and the Superfan Josh who see no error in anything SS does and multiquotedefends em to no end, in the same thread.

That's awesome.

I don't see how any mass production 1/6th figure could be worth $400 unless they shrunk Harrison Ford down and included a scale Ark made of real gold.

The only way I'll get the Takara version is if it's made with silicone skin, rooted hair, moveable eyes, real leather jacket, kakhi pants made from bannana repbulic, the most accurate head sculpt available, accessories from every single Indy movie, and a Harrison Ford signed Bluray boxset of the entire series, including the new one before it comes out.
That sounds pretty close to what they will probably release, plus it will probably have some cool diorama to display it in. The anticipation is making me itchy. :monkey1

Not quite accurate. I have given SSC credit on occasion, most recently for the ANH Obi-Wan figure which is excellent and is actually my favorite 1/6 SW figure that I own. I also think their PF's,statues and busts are among the best high end collectibles on the market. My main issue is and has always been with their 1/6 figures. I think things have improved a bit recently and the new base bodies are very promising but until the production painters stop butchering the often fantastic sculpts (as Indy is) and the tailoring improves to a point where the attire doesn't need soaking in water or some other such "futzing" for it to look right I think they are far from being on a level playing field with Hot Toys which is what some people here were suggesting when the Indy and Clone Wars Obi-Wan protos were first revealed.

I will agree that this isn't accurate either. I love how it seems my fan club forgets the numerous posts I've made where I've said things about pieces I don't like or things SS has done I'm not happy with. Which is why I don't care anymore honestly. I can't win for losing so screw them.

I agree that the SS Indy sculpt isn't perfect - still worth $90 though. With the Takara version, I'm interested to see it is being co-produced with Toys McCoy - would an updated Toys McCoy (which went for $275 almost ten years ago) now be worth $400? It depends whether you think the original was worth $275. It was superb, for its time, and had a real leather jacket and whip. An updated version with real leather jacket and a sculpt that was the best 1/6 sculpt ever might just justify a $400 asking price for some people(though not for me!).

In a word, NO.

It's a much different market now. Besides, SSC's Indy is already much better than the Toys McCoy in many ways. They would have to make some SERIOUS upgrades and additions, such as a new headsculpts (yes, PLURAL) tons more accessories, more artifacts, extra outfits, etc.

I did nt think Toys McCoy were still in business.Nice to see they re still around.I have two of their Steve McQueen figures from "The Great Escape" and "Hunter".They look a little dated now but back in 1998 they were right out there. Not an exaggeration to call them the "Hot Toys" of their day such was their willingness to experiment and push the envelope in 1/6.I could never understand why they did nt produce a Frank Bullitt though, still one of my most desired action figures.

Yup pretty much turn this into the worlds most expensive barbie. :lol

Except that the Toys McCoy jacket was made of leather.

If it was pretty much the same as SSC's version but had the greatest head sculpt and paint job EVER...would that make it worth $400? I personally don't think any toy is worth $400, but what if this thing literally looked human? If it was truly amazing to the extent that anything else looked inferior I might be tempted.

I can almost guarantee that people are going to be disappointed with this. It sounds to me that they are trying to make it into a "we used the finest materials money can buy" type of luxury figure, rather than something that will totally blow you away with how it looks. That's not to say that it will be bad per se, but I doubt that many will feel that it is worth the price premium.

Probably be a CRM Vs PF type of situation... sure their might be positives, but is it really gonna be a figure worth 4X the money?

I can see it being worth that much.

Indy has been one of the figures that customisers have been in competition with each other, to have the best version, for over a decade. Now that there's a range of companies, all with the same or similar licence, the competition is again fierce. It comes down to detailed, 1/6th scale, museum piece.

There are many fanatics that will want perfection. One Indy to rule them all. Sideshows sculpt is better than Medicoms, but the paint apps are atrocious, and we are seeing the proto. The one where they personalise the painting. We know it's good underneath, but you wont get much change out of a hundred to fix it. Then it comes down to detail, and some people are pretty anal (finicky) about that. The jacket isn't long enough etc. Then there's authenticity. Leather jacket , belt, whip, boots. Metal buckle, gun. 1/6th scale rabbit fur Akubra, not resin rubber or plastic. Rooted hair. Then Takara may have a new body for all we know. Some fantastic diorama, or accessories.

I can easily see it being worth $400. Now we just need to see it, and seeing isn't everything. Anyone who has an Enterbay Bruce Lee knows, you have to feel it as well. Now if you don't know what I'm talking about, then do yourself a favour and buy one.

I'm of the mind that you can't really say it's not going to be worth it until I see what they do.
It may have an unbelievable amount of stuff that comes with it and/or it may be made out of completely authentic parts as creecher stated but one things for sure, it better look freakin' real for that kinda cash.
