For ppl in the US, Canada or even Mexico, it's probably a lot easier to return something to Sideshow than it is to Japan. For me in Canada I'd expect the difference to ship to Sideshow would be a fraction of the price to Japan. I can use UPS or FedEx ground service for instance, whereas courier air to Japan would probably be $200 and postal rates not that great either. They can ship in this direction for much less than I can the other way.

It depends on the respective store's return policy. HLJ for example will, like Sideshow, cover the return shipping cost, so there is no difference between the two in that regard.

My original comment was in reference to someone talking about buying from Amazon's marketplace. You have to pay for your own return shipping. Amazon is pretty clear about this.

Shipping and handling charges for returning items shipped by a seller are borne by the buyer

Oh, in that case yeah... paying for your own shipping for a defective item blows. I personally never buy from stores that have this policy on items that are so often prone to QC issues.

...while this is a beautiful figure, its great strength - a gorgeous surface finish - is also its great weakness in that it pronounces the slightest surface blemish. Fussy collectors + $350-400 MSRP = lots of returns I think. I wonder how Tamashii has fared in this respect...

Mine's been in the box since I did the initial inspection / pics.

I should be ashamed of myself.

I am inside the same circle of shame too. But I'll soon be in the circle of pride, now that I've freed up some display space by selling off a couple of figures, and I no longer feel like waiting on my sideshow refund before putting this on the shelf. Circle of pride :woo

Nice one. :lol

My issue is a proper set up space right now. I've got ONE cabinet for the 1/6 stuff, & way more figures - so, I've got a small selection out, & the rest are in the cupboard for now.

I'm HANGING to get a nice high end SW set up going though, & I'll hopefully be getting a couple more Detolfs in the near future. :)

I'll be picking mine up later this week. Since it's all made out of metal, what would the chances of this thing rusting later down the road?

Amazon also lists other sellers for this figure. Any reason to avoid the direct sellers from Japan, or anything like that?

Ooh! You buyin' this Neal? It's on my wish list, but I'm just not accustomed to this price point yet, so there's a reluctance in pulling the trigger. If I wasn't such a Threepio fan...

I'm praying for an R2 from these guys!

I was feeling pretty confident that R2 was in the bag with the apparent success of C-3PO... but then I wonder how much Tamashii has had to wear in terms of writing off sub-par examples and whether this will have any impact on their enthusiasm for the other driod. Then again, maybe it's only picky collectors on this board who feel they need to return theirs at the first hint of a surface blemish, and the broader return rate is not something Tamashii are concerned about... it'd be good to get the next bit of news on R2.

It stands to reason that people on other forums similar to this one will have similar standards for collectible figures. And since people on this board and others like it are sure to make up 99.9% of the purchasers of this product... That doesn't leave many sales to the blind baller who doesn't care what their $400 buys them. ;)

Yeah, I already placed my order. It's definitely expensive for a 12" figure, but it looks to be worth it.
