dudes it comes with working parts I really do hope they make this

well if it was 7" we would be closer to scale

problem medicom and kenner both have it's an inch too short

Really? That sucks. Somewhere there sits a person with absolutely no shame that the figure on their shelf is a stolen prototype.

Someone posted in here a little while back that they effectively said "no" for the foreseeable future, until they secure new licensing - that was pretty specific.

I must have missed that. So it' officially not getting made then.

I would say someone at Sideshow did something to really piss off someone at Tamashii.

:(

I'd say so.

It's a shame because the Tamashii C-3PO is better than anything SSC ever made.

Not official. One of the members posted here that they asked the Tomashii rep @ NYCC what was the deal with R2. That person stated that Tomashii had decided to go it alone without SS and were looking to secure licensing to do so. They never said the project was dead, but who knows. I'm sure with the acquisition, licensing is taking a major shift. I wouldn't be surprised if it is also the hold up for Hot Toys. If you can get a bigger cut and axe the middleman, why rush to market?

As far as asking SS a question at SDCC; try finding a designer these days at their booth if you're not press. Use to be a time when you could buy stuff at their booth and rap to the guy who designed it or designed the packaging for it... not any more!

This rumor you can put to rest for good. Hasbro has worldwide exclusive rights to Star Wars toys. Period. Read the official press releases, the contract was renewed through at least 2018 already back in 2003. This year it's extended through 2020.

The only way to get a license would be through cooperation with Hasbro. It's clear Sideshow has had this for a very long time. And I don't see Hasbro cooperating directly with anyone else without the involvement or consideration of Sideshow (the biggest and most significant player in this market worldwide).

No one else is going to get any toy/figure licensing directly from LFL/Disney circumventing Hasbro, nor likely circumventing Sideshow.

Assuming it all works that cleanly, then what was said by the Tomashii rep made no sense. Why state they are looking to do it without SS if the rights have been exclusively locked up for so long?
No one will really know until we know. All we have is diseparate parts that still add up to one fact: No R2 news to rely on.

Well, with or without Tamashii, a 1:6 R2 is still a certainty. I think Sideshow would be sure to do a good job of it, even if it isn't diecast (though I'd hope the dome would be aluminium). Only thing I'm kind of surprised at is why we haven't already seen a couple R2 iterations, considering an R2 release would be money in the bank for Sideshow. Sure is curious why some stuff gets made and other, presumably sure-fire winners, languish in development hell.

That's it Sol - someone will make him. :lol

I'd welcome SSC's version - but any figure announcements seem to be relegated to limbo, & it just ups the conjecture as far as I'm concerned. Is it simply a case of them thinking that the Medi will suffice till they get around to it? After all, Medi goes through SSC iirc. Going by that premise - & the fact that 3PO's already available (for argument's sake), means that SSC can pump out other things that have already been planned according to their model for the next few years.

I think PP touched on this earlier; even things that seem inconsequential or fairly simple decision wise to us, requires careful planning for them to keep things rolling smoothly enough at their end. In other words; they more than likely have their character list sorted for the next 2 to 3 years, & just because Tamashii hasn't produced something yet, doesn't mean the ball automatically gets thrown over to SSC.

They have their hands full as it is.. all common sense really, but sometimes worth re-iterating.

I've had space reserved since this past spring! But I've yet to build the dio background that will host both 3PO and R2, so it doesn't bother me that I don't yet have either. I'm taking the Field of Dreams approach - if you build it, they will come.

honestly i don't care if it's diecast metal as long as he is a good one not just light's and sounds (like medicom seems to think we only need). I want one that can do something else with usable arms, satellite, and a place to put jedi luke's saber. please sideshow give him working parts and maybe taller by an inch
