Disappointing news re R2. :(

Well, if you want to look on the bright side, it's not actually news so much as rumor and unsubstantiated second-hand information.

The most disappointing thing is that there is actually no real news. Typically "no news is good news" - but not in this case. ;)

I only hope that Side show will realize the shortcomings of medicom and this thing with temashi is either cleared up or maybe temashi got greedy and wanted more profits. but I think Sideshow will come out with a model that is better than medicom not that that is saying much.

to make it a really good R2 only needs:

1. Retractable utilitiy arms (port, griping, saw, and laser)
2. on dome a chrome finish maybe metal (with a antena and port for light saber to sit.
3. since the repro r2 was made from sterine then plastic frame is sutable.
4. lights
5. sounds
6. at least 7.25-8" tall

It may seem like alot but it's totally doable. in fact at that height might even make it easier to do the electronics and gagets easier to work and function

Why are you guys arguing about 6"?
I'm not the one quoting tape measurements.. :huh :lol

Groovy's a SW noob by her own admission - as per her 'new to SW' thread in this section, & is playing catch up with it all. R2's obviously a pearler for inconsistent scaling when it comes to the toys - & a noob can obviously find that a bit confounding, as Groovy's demonstrated.

The Medi's well under scaled - there's your starting point Groovy.

Carry on. :lecture

it is and completely irritating. Im boycotting medicom until they can get their act together. and if temashi and hasbro and sideshow can't play together nicely then cut ties with temashi claim ownership of what C3PO were under contract and have their sculptor start making parts chop chop people..

Im sure they have an electronics guy that is dyeing to get this bad boy done. R2 should stand practically just under at princess leia's bust level. they have their proto of leia to use as scale help. I measured he should be 7.5 inches tall in about range.

It still confounds me no toy company watched the movie to see whats what.

First of all Medicom will almost certainly never change - supported by an army of fans who don't care about scale, they have stuck to an approach they feel works and are .

Secondly, off to Skiman's thread you go!

I think he's in scale with the other Medicom pieces. Their figures have always been a bit smaller than the Sideshow and Hot Toys stuff in my experience.

me and skiman had already talked he said it's doable but he is so swamped with time to Frankenstein a R2. I totally know ski is swamped he is juggling to much for me to disturb him.

Besides this will be sideshows turn to make an attempt, help us sideshow your are only hope.

if they could figure out how that projector clock operated they could have a holographic leia very easy.

Not by a long shot. ;)

Medicom stuff is all over the map with regards to scale. They don't have consistency across even some individual figures (parts, including legs out of scale), let along pairs of figures or an entire product line. I own a Medicom Henry Jones Sr. I had to replace the body for, and I'll never buy anything from them again. They're just far too sub-par for the most part, even though I do like the sculpt on Jones Sr. (bad paint) and the clothing is decent.

Groovy, I'm not sure what you've measured, but if you check the link I previously sent, the guys at that site have blueprints from the movie and verified with a movie prop at about 108cm tall. That just over 7" at 1/6 - 7.5" would be too tall. Also, a chrome R2 would be a huge disappointment. Brushed/distressed stainless or aluminum dome would be OK.

then it's just 1/2 inch bigger than my r2 now that could still work and sideshow would have it's own scale so not having issues with copycatting someone. since Gental giants is 7.5 if their taller than kenner and medicom there in the right direction is all i care about.

im familiar with taito but i thought that was nearly 8" tall.

it would be cool if sideshow worked with them to make an r2 they already have a working frame. just needs gadgets like this

Gentle Giant's would've been out around about now too. Based on the pics I would've been happy with theirs.

Nope. I got the Taito and it's perfect scale. Just a hair over 7".

Yeah, what he said. The bottom line is there is absolutely nothing out there to suggest we're going to see a diecast R2, at least not for a very, very long time.

There's nothing out there to say we wont get a diecast R2 either.

Gentle Giant gave up on their R2 after 4 years of delays and SSC didn't even attempt one after having the license for 8 years.

I don't even need the gadget arms. Just a nice in scale one would be nice. Don't need die-cast or electronics either. :)

Fair enough if one isn't interested, but R2 is THE perfect character contender to have working gadgets, lights & sounds built into a high end 1/6 scale figure representation.

I couldn't think of a more perfect candidate. :)

but those figures are rare and and only has the telescope

Not sure I understand what you are talking about. The Taito clock has the periscope, swivel head that raises just like the Star Wars cross visual dictionary photos, fire extinguisher, and data link with opening door. Oh and third retractable leg.

Here's a pic of Pjb's tamashi next to the Taito clock. Looks like the right scale to me.

I get what your saying he is the right height however but he is missing his most important arm his port control it was important part of him i ANH accessing the computer. plus SS could have a dio for him to put in the port key.

R2 had a griping claw he played tug of war with yoda, a sodding arm he used to help put C3P0 together, saw for cutting the net on endor, and laser arm he free's leia from slavery with, and extinguisher arm on the x-wing.

on R2's head he had the periscope you mentioned, satellite he used in endor , a port for puting a saber in and a few other gadgets i don't know what they do.

each gadget was used at one point during all movies if they do one figure that has all and include jaba the huts tray as an exclusive piece then they have a full complete figure of R2 if they make him 7" high with lights and sounds.

for what we pay for a figure people why does it seam like im the only one that wants the whole deal. you guys seem to just grab what you can get without asking for what you want. i gave the specs to sideshow and they said they will forward it to the creative team I only hope it actually gets read and a figure is made.
