Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I LIKE this latest trailer! No dumb comedy...

Matters not, you know it's in there.

I also loathe the whole idea of Skynet or any of its Terminators having personality and extensive dialogue - pretty much like Ultron. Think of the first film or the T-1000 in T2 - the bad guys don't ****ing talk, they don't boast about their evil plans, they don't verbally spar with the heroes. Everything I see from this film completely goes against Cameron's universe.

Wow, every new second of Jai Courtney is just terrible. He was decent enough in that one Die Hard movie and even in Divergent (don't judge, it was free) but he is apparently just so wrong for Reese.

That's true. Even in T3 the T-x didn't have a conversation with Arnold. :lol

Good point. Skynet should always act like a cold blooded insect colony. It doesn't need to show boat it's going to win.

Ultron was allowed to make speeches though, he was basically a magical borderline living creature due to Loki's scepter. Not a cold machine that would only speak when talking was a necessity in accomplishing it's programmed directives.

I like the fact Arnold has his grey hair and didn't try to emulate his '90's hair by doing alot of work on it :lol

I Think I am more shocked that this is a summer release. I think that might be one of the reasons why this feels worse than it is.

If this came out in February-March then, okay, fine, crappy terminator movie coming out early in the year, no one cares.
But making it a "Summer Blockbuster" wtf were they thinking? :lol

Khev, Khev... a flippant robot is just not scary. Ultron was more C-3PO than Terminator.

I know but he was sympathetic and cool in his own way. And his grandstanding was internally consistent with how he was created. He wasn't a cold, "unliving" machine.

We were discussing "talking" robots, now how evil or scary they were supposed to be.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Ultron was more effective in the trailer and commercials because he felt and sounded psychotic and dangerous in his hatred for Man.

But once he said "if I could throw up in my mouth" the character was lost to me. If you lose the character -- if there's no threat behind the image, then the entire image falls apart. No amount of CGI flipping around can add gravitas or "threat" to it.

I understand the whole Tony Stark thing -- it's nonsense quite frankly if it doesn't work. Who cares if he's being "Stark-like" if it doesn't work for a villain? And wouldn't he be the very opposite of flippant if he was truly trying to be different. He seemed to embrace the very thing he hated about Stark. That's not very believeable. That angle should have been his Achilles heel. That moment of Starkness that he is but which he tries to hide could have been a better way to be his undoing at the end. In the end, it was his Starkness that kills him, not where he gets his one-liners.

So why isn't Vision like Stark? His brain comes from Jarvis.

Why didn't Ultron also have Bruce Banner's personality? He was also responsible for creating Ultron. He had two parents, Stark and Banner.

what if John ends up being a good guy at the end? (like he was trying to save mankind by uniting machines and humans together? )

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I didn't mind the "throw up in my mouth" line, it was funny, and the crowd always seemed to dig it too.

But there was one line that I found kind of annoying all three times I saw it and it was when he said, "little people, what are they called? The word escapes me...um, oh yeah, children." He can digest the totality of data on the internet in microseconds but really has to strain his brain to remember what humans are called prior to adulthood? What? :slap

Uncomfortable laughter. More like: did he really just say that?

Fact is, Disney and Marvel decided to play Ultron for laughs too... so he's not too scary for their theme park ride one day.

There is one similarity between Disney and Feige's Marvel -- there is no edge.
