Welp, I saw Terminator Genisys.

Absolutely abhorred it, even kind of felt insulted a bit to be honest. When the end credits rolled up and it was playing that awful hip hop music, I wanted to go punch Arnold in the face. I can't believe he'd be involved with something like this. I can't believe Cameron would endorse it. It didn't feel like any love went into the story, script or any of the characters. It was like they looked at The Terminator, Judgment Day, T3, Salvation, and yes, even the Sarah Connor Chronicles television show and just aped whatever concepts they thought were necessary to make a quick, 2 hour movie. I wasn't engaged at all.

I guess the 1984 bits were sorta interesting if you like seeing two of your all time favorite movies being lampooned as entertainment for a bunch of plebeian, popcorn munching, flipper slapping seals. All I kept thinking about was how much of a waste this whole thing was. I'm not even sure what message I'm supposed to take away from it. It's like I could feel them checking off everything that they felt was "terminatory" when they don't have a clue what the original films were about. For my penance, I'm going to watch The Terminator and T2 multiple times. I honestly hope they weren't tainted by this experience. I really wish I had one of those deneuralizer thingies from Men In Black so I could forget this ****. I mean, the trailers basically spoil everything except one or two things, but just seeing it in it's entirety really bugged me.

Mad Max: Fury Road is still my favorite thing this year. Unfortunately, I'm sure that even Terminator Genisys will be more relevant and popular to the general audiences than Fury Road.

IMDB is not a reliable page. People can and they do, rate films before they even come out, and who knows if those people have seen the film.

You have no idea how full of irony your comment is. It falls inline with the majority in this thread, who did the exact same thing for months, before this movie came out. Thank you for proving my point. /thread

You were trying to prove a point? :lol What did we do? I've criticized the trailers and tv spots, but I'm still giving the film a chance. I haven't given the film a score or a review yet...most people haven't :dunno

How have I not yet seen, or even heard about Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone? That will be rectified very shortly.

It was more the audience I was with. They were clapping, wooing and being vocal at what I personally thought were the dumbest parts of the movie.

I'm not saying that people that like it are seals, just that it seems like this had a certain audience in mind when they were making it.
Makes me think of the screening of Eastern Promises I saw, when these women were laughing their asses off during the scene where he fights a guy in the nude. I wanted to punch them all. A rare instance in a movie where I told someone to shut up.

Oh and I didn't quote it, but did I read this right. You compared Captain America: The First Avenger to Genisys? Whaaaaat!?! Captain America is way better and actually had/has a heart.
For Khev, Raiders of the Lost Ark = First Avenger. Therefore, in his mind, Terminator: Gynyses = Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Looks like I'll have to post this in higher number of threads than anticipated...

LOL We ain't far from that with some of these movies.

Nobody is going to agree on everything, and that's okay.

Very true.

I was trying to be "objective" when I compared Genisys to 2nd tier MCU films and CA:TFA seems to be second tier for a lot of people. Personally I put TFA above Genisys but I could see people rating them the same. On the flip side I actually liked Genisys quite a bit more than the first "Avengers" film but I know everyone worships that movie and decided to not go there. :lol

But regarding Captain America having "heart." Yes I agree but I also thought TG did as well. You might think it's BS or whatever but I really got from the movie that Pops

really had developed "feelings" for Sarah that he masked due to his directive to protect her. I think that either due to his length of time in the field or special new programming from whoever sent him he actually did become capable of "knowing now why you cry." And I "got" what was in my mind a parallel to Arnold himself. That beneath the robotic gestures and funny (and sometimes not funny) one-liners that he actually did care about making a good movie and entertaining people. Maybe he's become Riggan from Birdman or something trying to recapture relevance or whatever but I felt that he was trying to do justice to this series and this movie. And again "in character" I thought that Pops really did "love" Sarah even if he himself didn't fully understand how or why.

So that really gave Genisys some emotional weight for me. It turned out to be much more than just monkey smiles and a poorly cast Reese.

Here's a question for you. You said that Genisys seemed to just throw everything that was "Terminatory" together without any rhyme or reason or whatnot. Wouldn't you say that Back to the Future II was basically the same? Just repeating literal events from the first film with some new "Back to the Future-y" moments like the hoverboard chase in the future? Did that also annoy you with BTTF II or did you think they "did it right?"

Because I saw Genisys as taking a similar approach and thought that it worked well. Not perfect. But well enough. I do wish that they didn't inappropriately use "dun dun DUN dun dun" those two times and a couple other things like that but overall I liked how it was done.

You've never seen The Last Starfighter OR Spacehunter? What were you DOING in the 80's?

For Khev, Raiders of the Lost Ark = First Avenger. Therefore, in his mind, Terminator: Gynyses = Raiders of the Lost Ark.

For whatever reason this never gets old. :lol The total stretching of things I've said in the past coupled with subtle little digs like spelling Genisys so wrong. Great stuff. :lol :duff
