What's the new direction though?
Oscorp ****ing up Peter's life? Eh, been there. Peter's responsibility in conflict with his girl? Uhhh. His girl being in danger with yet another green meanie? Uhhhhhhhhh. City loving Spider-Man and kids dressing up like him (Spider-Man 3 had that but I don't think anyone dug it). I guess the whole deal with the Osborns is sorta new, this and the whole eugenics theme. Is that what "most people" are excited about?
Let's face it though, we can only judge what we see. Right now, it's the look and costumes, what we see in the trailers and tv spots, etc. God forbid people tear apart weird looking villain costumes. If you think that's bad, just wait until people watch the film and start nitpicking the actual plot/story!
The new direction is in the tone, the movie looks like it’s dropping the super serious, grounded tone of the first movie, and embracing the crazy world of Spiderman.
