My guess is they're keeping the "public turn on Spider-Man" story for another film. By starting out with the public adoring him, it makes an about-face more dramatic and compelling. Wouldn't shock me to see something akin to Norman's faux superhero run as the Iron Patriot, where the public is deceived, and will later learn the truth, making Spidey all that much more popular.

Told you this movie would be terrible. And don't say I am making a judgement in hindsight. I made a post on this thread a few months ago predicting the movie would be awful. When I made that post, I predicted spidey fans would spew and vomit in response, and soon enough, it happened.

Why are you spidey fans fighting tooth and nail in defense of this franchise? Shouldn't you be calling Sony out for making these crap spiderman films? This is a CASH GRAB, nothing else. Sony is exercising ultimate indifference in their hostile stewardship of spiderman. If you want me to translate that last sentence, spiderman is chained inside sony's house and sony is pounding on spiderman until money starts falling out of his crevices. If you want me to translate that even more, take the south park episode where indiana jones gets ***** by steven speilberg and george lucas. Replace indiana jones with spiderman and replace steven speilberg/george lucas with the board executives at Sony.

Spiderman one and spiderman two with tobey maguire was great. We can all acknowledge that. But that isn't what Sony is about anymore. They learned nothing from spiderman 3. Cram every villian they can think of into amazing spiderman 2, so they can set up sinister six and hope to get an avengers box office.

The worst part is that marvel studios is getting a bad rap for other studio's awful films. Look at the reviews for this spiderman movie. Half of those critics are not aware of the power struggle between sony and marvel. They think this is another crappy marvel film, and marvel is getting the blame. If I created an amazing product, and then a chinese knock off company made a cheap copy and flooded the market to the point that the consumer becomes sick and tired of said product, I'd be pretty pissed off. And watch, I'm probably gonna get flamed for this one too, but to me, its pointless to debate with someone who thinks this "amazing spiderman" franchise is a quality product.

You've pre-ordered the DVD then?

Seriously though, I would say the response is definitely mixed. Some love, some hate, most either like or dislike on balance, but see pros and cons.

I see what they were going for with the Max Dillon character,-a sympathetic, antisocial lonely, introvert who just wants to be noticed and needed, but it was a little over the top and a complete rip off of the Jim Carey Riddler. The scene where he is talking to himself in the mirror next too the picture of spiderman, made me cringe in a way I hadn't since viewing a movie with bat nipples.

This is EXACTLY who I compared him to when I was describing him to my friend, I'm glad I wasnt the only one who felt I was watching a rehashed version of Carrey's Edward Nigma.
His hatred towards Spidey didn't really make sense to me. He may be an introvert but he was far from being an *****, he designed that entire power station. Was he really that put off about his birthday? Seems like p!ss poor motivation for someone to become a murderous villain.

I actually totally buy the motivations of a mentally deranged person irrationally obsessed with something like Dillon was. But he was portrayed as a caricature, and not a real person. If he was a more genuine nutjob, that character would have been a lot more appealing in a movie that also tries to play on genuine audience emotion in terms of the Peter/Gwen and Peter/Harry relationships.

Yup.

And Edward Nygma was more believable as that type of character back in 1995 in my opinion. I thought the sycophant angle was played quite well. He also had that weird, creepy theme just like Electro now that I think about it (except Riddler's was bat-**** crazy).

I didn't buy Garfield or Stone as High School kids anyway, especially Garfield.

One thing that I hated was that the city loved him. That was really reminiscent of Spider-Man 3 to me. I prefer when most of the city believes Jameson's stories and hates/fears the guy. I thought for sure they would play a "Spider-Man responsible for Gwen's death and the city/police blame him" card in the end.

it drove me up the wall when people were cheering him on in the times square scene.it doesn't fit his character.

I know. I still am surprised they did it given the great chemistry between the actors, and I am sad to know Emma Stone won't be in the third (in a major roll, maybe flashbacks).

I thought her outfit at the end of the movie was very similar to the one she wore in the comics (issue 121), so at that point I thought maybe they will do it. When she meets up with Spidey to fight Electro and says, "This is MY choice!", I pretty much knew at that point she would die. Great scene, but still hard to watch, despite knowing it was coming!

I didn't have the ending spoiled before seeing it, so I was holding out hope for those last few seconds thinking she may still be alive.

It was all very well put together.

When did it become ok to cast him as a highschool kid . In past he was always a bit more mature college student, now they turned him in to a teen with all the emotional teen romance .

It has shades of that ultimate spiderman cartoon.

He started as a high school kid in Raimi's films as well. I would guess it's because he was a high school student in the comics when he was invented. Why change something that's worked for half a century?

In Civil War Peter says he's been Spider-Man since he was 15 years old. So having him in high school during an origin story makes since. And while Garfield looks younger than Tobey, neither is passing for 15 in either of their respective films.

He probably was 15 in the comics, he was a senior in Raimi flicks when they started, I think that's part of why I never liked Toby as parker, I always thought he looked like an old man. :LOL

WHO?????

Who thinks this is a marvel film? WHO? I've never seen that, I know there is a lot of hate but if anything everyone everywhere is begging Marvel to take Spiderman back. I've not once seen any kind of review hating this as a crappy Marvel movie.

I would like to see, show me

The Amazing Spider-man adapts from the "The Ultimate Spider-man" comic heavily as well. In that series, Peter Parker was always in high school until the character passed away and Miles Morales took over. In the original (616) series, Parker graduates high school pretty quick, around issue #28 so they skip a lot of it as well.

Bendis (Ultimate Spidey writer) said they wanted to explore more of Parker in high school as Spider-man and kept Spidey a "teenage" hero for the run. There's even a funny scene in the comics when an adult Black Cat makes out with him, only to be horrified later on when she finds out he's just a kid.

Considering the Raimi flicks jumped almost immediately from Spidey in high school to college, I think they wanted to explore his high school life a little more in the reboot.

I still don't see how it's based off Ultimate Spidey besides high school Pete, blue Electro, Richard being a scientist for Oscorp...and somewhat mecha Rhino.

-In Ultimate Spidey, it was also a OSCORP-related (the OZ serum) spider that bit Parker. In 616, it was a generic radioactive spider with no links to OSCORP. OSCORP has a hand in creating Ultimate Spidey just like it does in the Amazing Spider-man series.

-A lot of the villains are "linked" to OSCORP. In Ultimate Spidey for example, when Osborn first exhibits his Goblin powers, it causes an explosion at OSCORP that also fuses Octavius's tentacles to him because he was working with them at the time, thus becoming Doc Ock. In ASM and ASM2, we see links between the villains and OSCORP.

-Ultimate Spidey has a younger, "hipper" and active Aunt May. Kind of like ASM series with Aunt May being involved in nursing, etc.

-Desire to be like Ultimate Spider-man leads Norman Osborn to become the Goblin. Somewhat similar in the movie, but essentially the same "serum" (OZ in Ultimate, Double 00 Spidey venom in ASM2) causes Harry's transformation.

-The OZ serum (Ultimate) is a prototype super soldier serum, the Double 00 serum in the Amazing Spider-man series seems to be something similar. This is alluded to when Richard Parker mentions his research was going to be used to help foreign powers with their military capabilities and further compounded by all the military "gear" we see in the OSCORP Special Projects bunker.

-This is a small similarity but could play out in the future: Ultimate Felicia Hardy has black hair just like Felicia in ASM2. Similar to her Ultimate counterpart, she also worked for a corporation that she would rob from (Fisk Enterprises in USM, OSCORP in ASM2). Considering that Felicia "knew" about the Special Projects in ASM2, it could be that she already scoped out some of what was going on in OSCORP.

Just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony has blended elements of the 616 Spider-man along with Ultimate Spider-man. So they adapt elements here and there.

It is fine in the first movie but I was just getting annoyed with his antics an not to mention the love story its back and forth was getting played out.
