Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

MJ: Hot, sexy even drawn as a comic character.

Anti-MJ: Not sexy enough to be MJ. Commonly referred to as used condom or troll

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

You're kidding right? Dunst is a habitual waverider. Hollywood is a whore and will cater to whomever is hot at present time, it takes real talent in order to maintain. She was all the rage for her turn in Interview with a Vampire which led her to be casted for a bit in films that didn't make much box office really because she soured until Bring It On which she quickly became of the poster children for the teenage set which she rode until Spider-Man which she has been continually riding until now. After Spider-Man 2 she was quoted as saying she was about done with it but then her turns in the next string of movies especially her laughable portrayal as Marie Antoinette was all over web and articles and ultimately led her to do Spider-Man 3. Then after that she continues to talk crap and then bam movies that still make no money and all of sudden she was cool with Spider-Man 4. Dunst has no staying power and will quickly disappear without another franchise or blockbuster to ride the wave of once again.

If we are talking actual redheads there is Isla Fisher who is sexy and funny, Alicia Witt in that same boat, hell back then they could have even gotten Lindsay Lohan who hadn't gone bat____ crazy and at least if you look at Mean Girls had the look body and somewhat of the talent required for this. If they were looking for dye jobs especially at the time of castin? Rachel Leigh Cook, Jessica Biel, Keira Knightley, the list goes on and all of those were young actresses still starting out in the early 2000s. Honestly as overrated as Scarlett is, seeing her as a redhead in IM2, she could have pulled off the MJ part with her eyes closed. They went with Dunst simply because she was still riding the waves and was considered a draw for the girls as much as the fact it was Spider-Man was for the guys not because she was stellar addition.

Hell they could just get Bryce Dallas Howard!!! She's already a redhead too!!! :lol

That is true. This definitely screams MJ to me more than Dunst. Good thing they casted her as Gwen. :banghead

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

"Webb, who has options on two sequels, will now tackle a Jamie Vanderbilt script that sees a “Spider-Man” movie that will look and feel very different from the big movies that went before it.

The plan for the movie is to be in the $80 million range and feature a cast of relative unknowns (so you can quash those Rob Pattinson or Gordon-Levitt rumors at this point). And the story will be pared down to center on a high school kid who is dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though the teen had the power to stop it.

The touchstone for the new movie will not be the 1960s comics, which were the inspiration behind the movies by Raimi, who grew on up on them, but rather this past decade’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley where the villain-fighting took a back seat to the high school angst."

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Well she's gone now, let's move on shall we?

Hey I was asked to defend my comments, I'm more than happy to move on and hope that when the next Mary Jane is casted I don't utter the words "God remember when we had Kirsten Dunst wasn't that great?"

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

the concept of beauty is relative.

i didn't like dunst as mj for pretty much the same reasons as some of u. but it's a little unkind to call her ugly. c'mon, she is definitely not drop-dead gorgeous as the character merited, but neither is she as hideous nor talentless as some of u guys say. i know it's all a matter of opinion, but geez.

imo, someone like keira knightley is f%&*@$king hideous. that huge beak of a nose, that awful, stick insect figure. those jagged teeth. ugh. i couldn't be more turned off. and lindsay lohan isn't hot either. i'm sure many of u disagree with me, of course. :D

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

One has to remember that on message boards most of us embellish and go over the top for the sake of humor. When someone take it seriously or defends back with furvor it just stokes the fires and provokes another more ridiculous response again all a hyberbole. Its the nature of the beast. Although cry no tears for Dunst, despite looking like Gollum and that thing that Lisa turns Chet into in Weird Science mated had a kid, it died and one of them ate it, expelled it and then gave it a movie career, she could probably buy and sell me a couple times over.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

If they really do go Ultimates it'll be such a difference that it'll be a divide immediately and you'll have fans divided from opening weekend. What is good for Raimi fans is if they go Ultimates it'll be hyped that way and the films will be parallels to each other instead of one replacing the other.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

im interested to see wat sony comes up with for spidey but I love Ramis Trilogy and im not into that High school Teen with powers drama. I would of like to see Tobey wear the suit one las time. THey should of gave Rami one more year to prep the story for part 4 but hey..i guess well never know

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Like i stated earlier, Just like Superman 1&2, I'll always have SM 1&2.

They just need to make a kick ass SM movie, and not cater to teeny kids or modern 16-24 year olds. They need to cater to SM fans. Ultimate's could be really good, or really bad.

Another great post. :lol

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I'd rather ____ Bea Arthur than Dunst not to mention everything her snaggletooth smile showed up on screen I felt like I was going to ralph. She can't act her way out of a bag and from the go it was difficult to imagine that this:

Ugh. Mary Jane isn't a part in Shakespeare here, she is just the damsel in distress at times or another pain in Peter's ass. Not to mention she is supposed have the nerd sex appeal to all the macho going on around it. They could have at least gotten some eyecandy to go "I don't know Pete" or "Things are different Pete" or whatever academy award winning dialogue they had her spew. Seriously, its like her parts were written by the dialogue scribe in a porn film with how important she actually was. I still cringe in Spider-Man 1 during the rain scene thinking "Eww...I didn't know treasure trolls actually had nipples"...

You know you have a point, how of all people did we get kirstin dusnt imo who doesnt even act like mj. Really amazes me. hope we get a hotter mj.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Just to briefly respond to the Mike's posts, look, I could give two craps about Dunst. I understand she isn't whomever these models/porn stars are that you put in your signatures, etc. But you made my point earlier--it doesn't really matter who plays MJ, because she's just a plot point. She isn't the protagonist of the film, she isn't the antagonist of the film, she's something that is there to move Parker's story along.

And frankly, the hatred she has received has been extremely over the top and in many cases, disingenuous. Sure, alot of it comes from bandwagon jumping and exaggeration from posting on a message board, etc., but be real. It could have been worse. She's a good looking chick, even though she isn't Heidi Klum or whatever. What else was needed?

Most seem to accept that MJ didn't require a Judy Dench-type performance. So no, Dunst isn't a great actress, but so what? Neither is the guy who played Green Goblin's son, but he did the job.

I'm not disagreeing with your points about Dunst being a bright spot in the 90s who has faded, but that happens with 90% of female actresses. Why? Because they all get their jobs based on looks, and when that's gone, only a very small few remain. Hell, one of the finest actresses over the past 50 years was Faye Dunaway. What happened to her after Chinatown and Network? She's mostly relegated to TV appearances and straight-to-video-type fare. So why hate on her for that? Almost every actress who gets a high profile acting gig gets it because they are "hot" at the moment for whatever reason. Even all the actresses/models/whomever that you list are, I suspect, this week's flavor who will be forgotten about in a few years. That's just the nature of the female actress, unfortunately.

But at the end of the day, yeah, none of this matters, because the evil, talentless hag Dunst is gone.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I had no problem with Dunst, she was working opposite Tobey and him scoring her was already a strech, imo. :lol

So glad Tobey is gone though.

Is it true this whole film will focus on Pete in Highschool and dealing with Uncle Ben's death? ugh, didn't we just see that like 10 years ago?
