Lol. Of course he has to say getting Webb is a good decision for Spiderman, he just worked with the fella in a successful movie. Didn't offer that much insight into the consideration of Levitt starring in the movie.

Webb is an unproven action director. Who knows..... he could be brilliant, but it's still a grey area whether he is any good at filming action. Another worry is that he's going to concentrate too much on the teen angst/drama aspect and forget about the action. A good spiderman movie needs both. We don't want "Spidey 90210" or "500 days of Spidey", that would really suck. Lastly, they cut the budget to 80M which is a substantial drop from the last SM movie. So expect much less CGI and special effects which has become indispensible in superhero flicks (Batman Begins, another reboot had a budget or $120M I think). Whoever they choose to play spidey and the villains is also another integral element which will tip the balance between success and failure.

So far to me the news has been pretty grim: get a unproven action director they can control for cheap, reel in an unknown cast that will work for cheap and then cut the budget. Sounds like studio greed versus the intent to truly want to make a good Spidy flick and it could utimately spell the recipe for disaster for our friendly neighbourhood web-slinger.

It's pretty obvious he's the front-runner to play Spidey at this point, especially the way he doesn't want to answer. He should have said, the topic came up, but I can't talk about it. He's 28, to start a new series, he's too old for a reboot though. They need a 20 year old actor or younger if they want to do it all over again. By the time the movie would be finished he'd be 30.. They need a virtual unknown to play Spiderman, not some teen we've seen on the crappy teen drama TV shows..

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

He'd be fine for the reboot for me. Plus his age could move him outta HS FAST. (which would be good after the 1st movie)

He looks young to.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I think Levitt from a few years ago would have been preferable, but heck, it isn't as if he looks much older now.

From Brick:

I can see him as Peter Parker.

Update: Logan Lerman in Early Talks for Spider-Man?

UPDATE: Heat Vision reports that both Sony and the actor's reps say that Lerman is not the frontrunner just yet and that no actual "business discussions" have been made with Lerman.

Both Columbia Pictures and the actor’s camp have denied that Lerman, who stars as the title character in “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief,” is the lead candidate for job. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Lerman reportedly said, “There have been a few discussions; it’s definitely something I’m looking into.” That has led to reports that Lerman is the new Parker.

While a “wide net” is being cast, according to a studio spokesman, “No offers have been made, nor have any business discussions been made with Lerman.”

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman revealed to Access Hollywood that he is in early talks with Sony Pictures to play Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot.

"There have been a few discussions, it's definitely something I'm looking into," the 18-year-old Lerman said. "It's one of my favorite characters ever and I'm a huge fan of the series. I'd love to have more conversations about it. I'm definitely very interested in it."

Access Hollywood adds that Logan said the interest in him playing Spider-Man was "vice versa" from both him and the studio.

"It's just, you know, conversations are starting. It's a long process with the studio and the producers and everything. But it's definitely a project that I'm really interested in, of course. I'd love to focus on the human element a little bit more. It'd be such a fun experience."

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I read this today as well. Lerman definitely has the younger look to him and isn't bad as an actor, I remember him from that old show "Jack and Bobby" on the WB. Although if he is casted that means his direct supporting cast will be fairly young as well. Maybe they can get Serinda Swan (of Smallville and upcoming Percy Jackson fame) for Mary Jane, she is only a couple of years older than Lerman.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

You watch; they'll give Spidey the look that McFarlane and Larsen and Bagley gave him; big eyes, scrawny build.

Spider-Man is dead. It's all over.
