Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I can't watch it again right now but I swore I saw one. Then the the talk of Osborne being involved in the movie made me figure that it was for sure. Ah well, we'll see. I feel bad for watching that long of a preview as it is lol.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I was not really impressed by the footage. I guess it seems mixed to me.

Spiderman isn't a nerd anymore. He's this "cute" awkward skater boy type who stumbles through his conversation with Gwen who instantly likes him and then he makes small talk with criminals. Then the unmasking. Why is he running around without his mask all the time? The ending of that clip was badly edited too. You see the spire fall off that radio tower and fall down past the building but then in the very next shot it's still attached. Jarring.

The thing is that Spider-Man IS a science nerd, we see that clearly when he is building his webshooters, when he is looking at the science displays and in awe. What he isn't is the typical nerd as we saw in the 1960s. Stan Lee intended to have Peter Parker be an outcast, in the 1960s it was the stereotypical nerd that wore glasses, kept a pocket protector and wore thick rimmed glasses.

That isn't an outcast anymore. Thick rimmed glasses are commonplace on even folks who don't need them. Being a "nerd" is in fashion by folks who can't even put together a polysyllabic sentence because they see it on a TV show. In order to get Peter to be an outcast he needs to be something else and that skater boy stereotype is still a bit outdated and a bit awkward although even that is still somewhat acceptable. It's just an attempt to keep Peter outside of the norm which he needs to establish that first part of the hero transformation.

I'm willing to accept it simply because it's needed to establish the outside of the social ring that was Peter Parker when he first started. As the character is rebooted and I'm sure we'll endure a few more as the franchises continue the basis will have to continue to mimic what is current.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

You see if Peter dressed as a nerd he would be a hipster. The nerdy trend is in.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

He only stumbles while trying to find a reason to ask Gwen out, later on the bed, the coversation is not the same loser laden Tobey crap about how if she touches his leg she'll be in danger which is refreshing. Looks like this Spidey won't be afraid to kiss a girl.

And seriously it's very difficult to ask a girl out in high school. When you don't have a car, your options are basically ask her to an upcoming school dance or school event like a football game. Even if you just ask her to hang out, you know how difficult that is? She takes your bus home and then what? She needs a ride from a parent to get back to her house.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Last I heard they were planning on a TV series with him being a cop sans skull. :monkey1

There's something wrong with people. I've never read a single Punisher comic in my life, and I could tell a better Punisher story then these idiots.

But, it's a story that's been done a thousand times. But even then, so what?

War Zone was pretty funny though. :lol

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

You have to expect that though when you watch a 6 minute teaser :dunno

I have refrained from watching that but I did watch the 4 minute teaser and whilst I love what I am seeing I wish I had waited :(

^ yeah i haven't watched the 6 minute deal either, it's best not to see too much
The Spidey rescue scene they showed in the 4 minute trailer was more spoilerific to me, than the high school hallway scene they showed in the 6 minute trailer.

Which is why I said I wished I had waited :(
