Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I love Predators (watching it now actually) but for all its issues, Tophers part is the worst. Its the character and how hes supposed to be portrayed, he just sticks out like Jar Jar in Star wars. I don't think anyone could have improved the character in the movie.
I don't think the character was portrayed that great (not Topher's fault), but in all fairness..he's supposed to stick out.
That was his thing. He's the psycho murderer doctor who purposely acts pathetic and helpless to gain your trust, or atleast asure you he's not a threat...and then, well, slice your neck with a pocket knife coated in weird alien plant goo. :lol

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

he ruined spiderman,
then he went and ruined Predators
I wonder what else he is going to ruin next, and the worst thing is that, I Liked him, I thought he was funny in the show, I liked him as the little skinny smartass nerd, I had no problem with him on the show,
then he goes and ruins two movies out of the park, wtf? (Im not saying predators was bad, or comparing it to SP3, im saying his performance in it was terrible, it ruined it for me a little)

Venom was ruined from the start. There was nothing wrong with his performance in Predators. It wasn't great or anything, but he did his job.

I think you just hate Topher.

well... :nana: :nana: :nana:
he sucked in both movies, is not just me that thinks this, is everybody, (well except you) I wonder if there is a reason you are defending him.. :naughty

If they handle it better with casting, design and most importantly tone then this wiill be great, plus if they have a singular continuity then it gives a build up which Venom requires to tell his layered story, plus opens the door for other Spider-Man characters like Black Cat to get films that all connect to each other.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Another blurb about Venom:

We recently learned that "Chronicle" director Josh Trank is in talks to direct "Venom," based on the villainous "Spider-Man" character. Producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach have now provided an update.

"It's an Eddie Brock story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible [and] make the huge amazing movie about Eddie," said Arad. Tolmach added: "He was a journalist. He had the wrong story, he got in trouble for it, he got fired. The whole essence to us for the Marvel characters is stay close to the bible, stay close to the emotional story, and the rest is fun."

He went on to hint that after Venom gets his own movie, the character may be brought into "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise. "Hopefully all these worlds will live together in peace someday," he said.

As for The Avengers and Spidey it ISN'T an issue with story or issue with getting "planets aligned" it's a money issue and where the revenue would go from merchandising and ticket sales. Sony already sold their merchandising rights to Marvel Studios for ASM so it might be a moot point but that is the hold up nothing else. Arad is simply bating Marvel Studios and trying to get fans to get in a tissy about it thinking it'll force their hand but it's obvious that Feige doesn't bend like executives in the past especially given his track record. Arad is also trying to cover up a bit for totally screwing the pooch on SM3.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

So how does Venom exist without the symbiote's hate of Peter Parker and it's knowledge of him being Spider-Man? Will Garfield appear in the movie? Giving Venom his own movie without setting up the Peter Parker/Spider-Man link isn't "sticking close to the bible" as doucheboy put it. :huh

I hate Topher for ruining Venom, true enough. Spider-Man 3 was a terrible film, but this guy was by a large margin the worst thing about it.

Brock is a large, intimidating and very ANGRY individual. Not to mention he is older than Spidey. Brock has a careeer, a wife, an entire life already going, he's no 22 year old happy-go-lucky kid. There is nothing, n-o-t-h-i-n-g threatening or intimidating about Topher, he is incapable of being seen as such.

I am interested in seeing a Venom film, very much so.... unless they cast this guy or someone like him. Casting against type is the kiss of death for a project, and it seems like studios have largely learned this lesson. Let's hope they don't forget it again with Venom.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I wish Avi Arad or the filmakers or execs or whoever would just man up & say "we screwed up, SM3 handling if venom was ____ and were gonna do better next time" instead of saying "we were going in the right direction"

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Yea but Ihave a feeling that venom will be in the amazing spiderman series. For venom to work you need to have hatred for peter parker. The symbiote should be introduces at the end of the second amazing spiderman movie.

Too late for that. In rebooting the franchise the bastards are essentially squarely putting the blame on Raimi and McGuire. :monkey1

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

So it's Topher Grace's fault that he was told to play a silly, inaccurate version of Venom?

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Im sure topher would have been great but the script was just crappy and venom's dialoge was laughable.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

The writer may be in charge of the dialogue and the way the character was set up but Topher is sure as hell in charge of the delivery. If you look at a lot of Superhero films, there is a lot of strange and cheesy lines but the actor pulls them off.

yes and no, before auditioning he should've taken a second and considered 'am i okay with playing an unrecognizable version this beloved, well known character?'

Basically if i had the opportunity to play Kingpin, i wouldn't take it as i'm not the right build for the character.
