Despite always appearing as a red-head, apparently Emma is a natural blonde, at least according to this more detailed report of the announcement:

Who knew? Maybe she'll make a bit more sense as Gwen without her red dye job, but the choice is still odd. She seemed like a nice fit for MJ.

My world has been turned upside down.
Well, not really, but it's still a surprise. She rocks that red hair pretty damn well. It's sorta a shame, knowing Gwen's fate. This of course means that Emma's involvement in the reboot (and its potential franchise) will be limited.

I agree with Plasmid though, it makes no sense. She is best known as a redhead, has the rounder girl next door look of MJ why not cast her that way? Does that mean the blondes are set up for MJ?

I did NOT want her as MJ. This is great news. Sony is pretty much making this movie according to MY feelings alone.
Looks like they're gonna try to pick the perfect MJ, as they probably know from the fallout from Dunst.
